I got an e-mail from CP and sent him my numbers. . . .I am sure I will catch up with him eventually, in the meantime
how about advice and opinions on single vs dual disc clutches? What are the strengths of each and what are their weaknesses? would a dual last as long on the street as a single? Would the single hold even on dyno and draggin?
Thanks.

From what I have gathered Macs single will hold quite a bit. He talked like as long as the clutch was fully engaged it would hold. It would however slip if you were trying to speed shift at higher HP levels 450+. As far as sled pulling, the dual disc is a must. The dual disc allows you to run a higher gear and take off with higher RPM's. From what I have heard the dual is very streetable. Dual disc are kind of loud when you are holding the clutch disengaged. Big draw back of the dual is the high price taghttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif. Also, the dual will have to be shimmed from time to time depending on use and abuse.

Yes, cost would be the only real limitation here. With dual discs you get increased surface area and can have greater holding power that with a single disc even with reduced plate pressure. One bad thing about dual disc is that the can cook quicker if you slip them a lot under a heavy load to start out because of reduced mass to surface area of clutchs. You do not want to make a habit of slipping them alot.

Installed the dual disc yesterday!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif I really like the clutch, but it is going to take some getting used to. Pedal feel is about double that of stock, maybe a little more. Both the single and dual are loud while idling. The single is a little quieter than the dual, but it still has a noticable rattle at idle. The dual rattle is fairly loud, but with high idle it goes away. Just have to keep the foot on the clutch at the drivethruhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif. I am sure the single will work for 99% of ZF drivers out there, but for the extra few dollars and rattles you are pretty much bullet proof.

Hey Gray Max, any pictures? Did you have the hard pedal problem and is it gone now?
Thanks.

Congrats -- no more worries on splitting your flywheel in two or glazing your clutch disc. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif Bring on the HP!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I was planning on getting pics, but we had 3 to do and I really didn't have time to stop and take pics. The clutches are very high quality and heavy duty. Install on the single disc was about 2 hours from start to finish. Craig really knows what he is doing. Dual disc was about 3 because of fighting getting both disc lined up. Craig makes it look easy. It's nice being able to put the hammer down and keep it there without killing the flywheel. Craig will be at Schieds if anyone wants to hear it and see it pull. I should be there, but probably won't be pulling that far from home.
On the hard pedal, I did have the hard pedal, but with the increased plate load of the dual disc it is hard all the time now. It did not however get any harder as I recall. I'll try to pay more attention and let you know. Edited by: Gray Max
