Is there a Computer Program ie datamaster, freescan, That can be used to read and monitor this computer thru the dash connector?

I have the cable and laptop that I use for my caprice but didn't know if there was one that the truck world used. Edited by: bowtie

You should be able to read DTC's with one of the free scan programs.Edited by: quantum mechanic

Tell me about your cable. It plugs into the ALDL, yes? and on the other end? Straight into the laptop or does it have an interface to convert hexcode to databits?

This is my scantool setup. The interface is the blackbox on the side between the ALDL to 25 pin serial cable. the tan cable plugs into the IOIOI port on the laptop.

Ease diagnostic. It does everything except reprogram. The FVI interface is OBDI/II and you plug it in and it reads the PCM's functions realtime. I think you can get generic interfaces if you google search it. I found one for $75 that wasn't as sleak as this unit. I payed $230 for OBDI chevy software and $120 for the OBDI cable and FVI interface. (The FVI is the enhanced powertrain interface)

Yeah,

The FVI is a circuitboard and chip proscessing the ALDL hexcode from the PCM into databits. You don't need anything like it to clear codes. This let's you "see" the voltage readings and timing degrees as the PCM sees them.
