: Scheduled Maintenance at Dealer Only?

I recieved a letter in the mail for my Chevy 2500HD Duramax stating I needed to bring it into them to have its 6000 mile service done. The service was for an oil change. It says I need to have it done at a Chevy dealer in order to keep my warranty. Is this true? Do I have to have it done there? Why cant I do it myself? Is this just a gimick to get more money out of me or do I need to do this so every oil change is logged in order to keep my warranty? I think I might call GM directly and see what they have to say. Any comments would be welcomed.

Most of us here do our own service. Just make sure you use GM approved filters and oil. As far as I am concerned this is just to get more money out of you. I received a similar letter. I would also hang on to oil and filter receipts so you can prove that you did the service.

My dealer knows me well and knows that I do routine maintence way beyond what they recommend so I will never have a problem.

I almost never take my vehicle to a dealer for service, I either do it myself, or on *non DMAX* vehicles, take it to a local lube place.

As long as the oil and filters that meet GM specs are used, I see no reason why GM could deny you a warranty claim.

By NOT going to the dealer for service though, there will not be a service record on the vehicle like there would be if you did take it there.

I'd do what Max power said, keep the receipts and toss the letter.

its a gimmick to get you in for service... as long as you keep good records, your fine.

if they require you to have service done at dealer, then they must pay for it

I have a different view...........

GM was offering a 5 YRS/ 100 K miles on the engine.

If I go to the Dealer and get the oil changed then I have positive documentation of date/miles and records that GM would have a hard time disputing.

I spent my hard earned money on this truck..........I don't have the time or patience to deal with an argument over whether or not I can produce a receipt.

So evey 3-4K miles I spend the $48.00 for a LOF and tire rotation.......

In my opinion for the $150.00 a year it's cheap insurance..........

I supply the Allison spin on every other oil change and the fuel filter once a year..........I get charged $17.00 for the fuel filter and tranny filter swap..........or sometimes no charge at all.

Depends on what else I am having done at the time.

To each their own...............

Free tire rotation coupon........10% off next service coupon, etc.

I have sent way more business his way than anyone else.........and he says nothing to me about my mod's, just that they fight over who gets to road test it..........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

It is never there with a chip or programmer, but they know something is up.

Tony is fortunate to have a good relationship with a good dealer. IF that is the case, then by all means, go that route...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
