: Tires for 17" rim
ratlover 08-11-2004, 11:19 AM Well I have pretty much given up on the H2 rims. But I figured I would ask you guys incase there is something I am missing. Reason beings I cant find an acceptable tire to go en em and its pissing me off! I want a decent off road tire that is in the 32” or maybe a shade less since I don’t want scrubbing issues and I don’t want to crank my truck to the moon or move the bumper or anything. The thing that seems to be throwing most of the tires left out is the fact I don’t want to pay 180$ a tire. I would like something that gets decent milage too but I can bend a bit on this one. Interco(super swamper) dost seem to make anything that fits the bill. I would like something that rides ok and does fairly decent on wet pavement. Snow and ice traction mean zip since I am buying these for summer tires and will be running another set on my pyo’s for the winter. Maxiss buckshot mudders seem to be the only thing I have found that seems to fit the bill? I would prefer something like the swamper that is siped from the factory but oh well. I would prefer to get a tire that wears like iron but if its cheap I can put a couple sets on and not be too pissed. Any ideas guys? When I say rides ok I really mean it…..I have ran swampers before and the noise didn’t bother me too bad and supprisingly tsl’s don’t walk as bad as one would think. Thanks guys. I may just get another set of pyo’s and run 2 16” sets……..
Edit: I dont wheel my truck much but I would like a deccent performing tire.

White Duramax 08-11-2004, 02:28 PM Wild Country RVT's 33x12.5x17
ratlover 08-11-2004, 02:49 PM Arnt those a tad big to be able to run on a stock truck with no worries of rubbing?
VFRRider 08-11-2004, 04:42 PM They might rub. 285 75 16's are 32.8 inches tall. They do rub on full lock and backing while turned. 33 x 12.50 x 17 are taller. If you truly don't want to rub you'd need to go with a 265 70 17. I'll pm you with some info. on tires.
ratlover 08-11-2004, 04:50 PM 12.5 is quite a bit wider than a 285 aint it? Damn metric stuff with the gooofy ratios.....I have enough problems remembering my birthdatehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
Thats the size i was thinking, finding seems to be a PITA thoughhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
Thanks
Edit: a bit taller than the 265's I'm running should be ok(I think I have plenty of room) and I dont mind a bit narrower.Edited by: ratlover
VFRRider 08-11-2004, 05:01 PM Unfortunately thinner and taller may not be an option. The only 17" with a 75 ratio is 245 75 17, about as tall as the 265, but spec'd for a rim contour of 6.5J, 7J, and 7.5J. The Hummer rim is too wide. 235 80 17 is the same. 265 may be your only smaller tire option.
On edit;
I can't do the math, I use my company resource book. But for those who are interested..
Light Truck Metric
LT265/70R17/E
LT = Light Truck Designation
265 = Section Width in Millimeters
70 = Aspect Ratio
R = Radial Construction
17 = Rim Diameter in Inches
E = Load Range
Light Truck High Flotation
33x12.50R17LT/E
33 = Tire Overall Diameter in Inches
12.50 = Section Width in Inches
R = Radial Construction
17 = Rim Diameter in Inches
LT = Light Truck Tire
E = Load Range

ratlover 08-11-2004, 05:07 PM hummer rim 8" wide? They look so purdy, why must they be such a PITAhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
I may just get pissed and say "Screw it! I got a sawsall that says 35's will fit with no lift"http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif
I want my blinghttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
supatrucka 08-11-2004, 07:18 PM I have pro comp at's 33x12.50x17 load range d. I did crank my bars inch and a half. they ride nice and are fairly quite. some times they have a deal buy 3 get one free
ratlover 08-12-2004, 11:55 AM vfr, I am trying to reply to a pm but it says i am screwing up your name? Geting a little anoying here.....any who
this is what I want to run in the winter on my pyo's in a 235 85 16
I would probably just run the h2's with the dunlop radial rover rt's cuz they really kick but in the snow(although I think the cooper would do a bit better on ice) but they dont make a 17 so I figured I would run an aggresive tire in the summer on the h2's and a set of coopers for the winter.
May just run some 235 85 16 dunlop radial rover rt's on my pyo's year roundhttp://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
lets see if its the links that are pissing it offhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
ratlover 08-12-2004, 11:57 AM Wont let me post the linkshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
Micheal Tomac 08-12-2004, 12:58 PM how about a 285x70x17 BFG AT
Don't get the Inteco TrXus MT's. They are junk. I've had two 33x12.5x17's that have seperated and gotten air between the plies and bubbled the tread. One tire was from the original 4 and the other was the replacement for the first bad on. Both had low miles.
VFRRider 08-12-2004, 03:46 PM I didn't get a PM, try and hit reply to my PM and see if that works, or if you have a ques. just post it here.
ratlover 08-12-2004, 04:00 PM My post above was pretty much it....I think the links were kicking it out???http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Had a link to the cooper M+S and the dunlop radial rover rt's
Basicly interested in the cooper M+S on my PYO's
Still in search of some 17" tires.
Mike and others....arnt the 285's a bit too big? I want 0 chance of scrubbing and I dont want to touch my bumpers. I have the factory splash guards and 3/4" crank on the t bars past factory. Dont want to crank em anymore and I want something that I can crank down when I take it to the track.
Oh yeah.....I guess something that performs well at the drag strip toohttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif I'm thinking the 265 is a good size for the strip???
White Duramax 08-12-2004, 10:38 PM You can get 265/70R17's in just about any tire, but they dont have the load range. Most are C rated I believe. If you dont tow or haul that much in the summer they would be fine.
Brake_Torq 08-12-2004, 11:00 PM I'm going through the same headache. I want something to fit on H2 rims, but I don't want to mess with my front bumper. I know 265/70's would fit, but I think they would look kind of gay, being rather narrow for the H2 rims. I really want some 285/70 AT's of some sort, but I am seriously doubting whether they will fit, unless I can get some that run quite a bit smaller than the numbers say they are. Everybody says they will fit if you raise the bars some, but from measuring and going by them being 33", I dont see how they are going to fit without hitting the back corner of the plastic fascia under the front bumper. And I have already raised my torsion bars a little. Rubbing a little on the inside wouldn't bother me as much, but I just don't want to mess with that plastic. I'm thinking a lot of the people that say they fit may have only seen them on '01 and '02 trucks. Since thay changed the front bumpers on the '03's and up, will they not fit as large a tire without hitting it?
Does anybody know for sure if 285/70's will work on an '03 GMC?
Brake_Torq 08-12-2004, 11:12 PM More---- and specifically, a question for Tomac, or anybody else that might know---
You know the guy a while back that won the stock class at a pull, on his first hook ever? I read where he had 285 BFG's, and if I remember correctly from the pictures, he had an '03 or '04 GMC. Did he have the corners of the front fascia plastic cut off? You probably dropped the bars way down for the pull, so how did the 285's not rub? Anybody know?
Amric 08-12-2004, 11:57 PM I would like to see someone come out with a 315/60LT17 or even a 55 series. Mine don't rub, but I did MAJOR trimming.
cadent45 08-13-2004, 01:45 AM Hey ratlover,
I have installed take off H2 wheels with 315/70x17 BFG A/T tires. I had Off Road Unlimited in Burbank, CA, www.OffRoadUnlimited.com, install their HD Leveling Kit (2" of lift), probably the same as the "Green Keys" everyone talks about for $600 installed with an alignment and new Bilstein shocks. Very minor trimming (front bumper valance), and zip tie the parking brake cable in the rear of the left front inner fender. No rubbing! Now I don't really take my truck off-road, but no rubbing on sharp u-turns, or going up steep driveways. Tires and wheels almost new with probably less than 50 miles on them chromed for $950 a set of four! It may be more than you want to pay, but look at pictures and make your decision.

ratlover 08-13-2004, 09:02 AM Looks goodhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif Now she needs some exhausthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Tieing back the parking brake or inner fender dosnt bother me. But I'm not cranking the tbars anymore than now and I dont want to do any triming(unless I have to trim my factory mud flaps). Cranking of the bars is the main thing I am against.
cadent45 08-13-2004, 12:37 PM ORU does not crank up the bars, the use a T-Bar "key" to reposition the bars. The ride is not affected, it is firmer, but not harsh.
Exhaust and Banks kit is coming next month. They currently don't offer something for the LLY, but it is supposed to be ready in September.

ratlover 08-13-2004, 12:50 PM Keys have all the negatives associated with a t bar crank without turning the bolts. Steering geometry is still affected the same, I would still need to crank em down in the winter to work best with my plow.
Coolhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif You just going cat back I assume?
WYO_DMAX 08-13-2004, 03:02 PM I have 285/75-16s on my stock rims. I did crank the torsion bars some, but I don't think I would have had to. I have never had anything rub, and I didn't do any trimming or tying back.
I think you would be just fine with a 285/70-17 on the H2s. Those are the same height as the 285/75-16s. The H2s have a better offset compared to aftermarket rims and that helps a lot with the rubbing issues.
GMC-2002-Dmax 08-13-2004, 03:45 PM I have pro comp at's 33x12.50x17 load range d. I did crank my bars inch and a half. they ride nice and are fairly quite. some times they have a deal buy 3 get one free
I agree 100 %
