I've got an 2003 extended cab 2500HD, and I'm working on installing a gravity fed tidy tank on the back of the truck. When I took apart the filler neck, there's the big 2" rubber hose and then inside there's another plastic flex hose approx 1 1/4" in diameter. What is this smaller hose for and can I go without?

I want to tie into the 2" rubber hose to make an inlet for my tidy tank and this hose is very much in the way. A real pain in the butt to put back in the tank. Feedback is much appreciated!!

Vent.

Filling from the top ,no problem. Filling from the stock filler neck will result in "burping".

Will the tank be legal?

I didn't check with the authorities, but the welding shop I got to make the tank for me is certified for it and they did the complete install, so I'm assuming that yes it is legal. I've got the tidy tank sitting under my shoulder style tool box and all you see is my filler neck for the tank. In addition I've got my truck lifted and all dolled up, so the auxilary filler neck is the last thing anyone is going to notice. I'm not too worried. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Sounds cool... Any pics? Gallons?

As for legal, Diesel is easier than Gasoline. Basically all they require is that it doesn't leak and has a vent. I am no expert though...

I tied mine into the return line from the engine. It is 1/4 NPT at the cooler/jiffy-tite connection, so I just added a TEE. I do have a pump on her though. Just a cheapie from Napa will do the trick with some power from a switch in the cab. Just flip the switch and watch the fuel level climb back up.

Nice to not have to stop all the time when hauling...

No pictures, sorry. I've got it all tucked away under the toolbox neatly, so really hard to get at. It's just real simple gravity feed back into the exhisting tank. She holds about 120 liters (32 gal) so just over doubling my driving range. Right now I've got to turn a ball valve to get it to feed the tank, but I'll be wireing in a seloloid in the future and a swtich in the cab. With a 1/2 fuel line connecting the two, she fills real quick, I love it, plus it never took up any more box space than with the tool box in.
