I assume your talking about the vacuum pump at the rear of the engine and that you don't have a belt driven vacuum pump up front.Installing the vacuum pump down through the back of the engine is pretty easy,at least everytime i did it i found it to be easy, but all you need to do is engage the pump into the hex head oil pump driveshaft and push it down firmly and ensure you can rotate the pump after its seated. In the service manual it says to have the diaphram pod positioned toward the passenger side and swung around until its pretty close to the intake manifold. Also don't forget to use a gasket on your vacuum pump before you put it down. Some guys use sealer if they don't have a gasket.
Are you sure you have the right one?Have you compared it to your old vacuum pump?I hope whoever sold it to you did'nt give you a 5.7 diesel vacuum pump instead.Let us know how everything goes.:)

Yes - a problem is the hex socket in the VP driven gear must fit to the hex pump-drive extension as the gear teeth mesh with the drive gear on the camshaft.
Sometimes it fits right up, other times requires some additional incremental rotation of the hex pump-drive to get proper initial mesh.
If you got the pod only, there may be differences in the mounting between the 6.2 pod and the 350 pod, maybe in plunger length, or some such.
As suggested, compare the 6.2 unit with the replacement item.

might try disconnecting the power wire to the injection pump, and spinning the motor over while someone holds down on the vaccuum pump slightly, so it will catch the oil pump drive. don't hold the key and just keep the starter rolling, just a few short spins.
Unbolt the fuel filter assembly from the back of the manifold. Don't remove the filter or the lines. That should give you enough room to rotate the pump enough to get it in....at least that's what's worked for me. Hope this helps.
