I am thinking about dynoing my truck.
What procedure is correct for the Duramax and Allison. (After they strap you down - http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif)

Get a TECH II with a current cartridge that will work with a D-max........
Put the truck in drive and have the Tech II command the up-shifts until 4th gear is reached while you are on the rollers.
If you have OD lockout use it........this will help keep it in 4th and not allow the up-shift to 5th.
Use the Tow/Haul mode and rev engine until you get to around 1600 rpm's, hold it there, you will feel the TC lock and then floor it........the tranny should stay in 4th and the TC should stay locked.
Get out of it ant around 3100-3300 rpm's

Thanks Tony for your advise. Where do you get a Tech II ?
Anyone else care to share their dyno expertise ? I was thinking more of you had some succesful dyno experiences. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

If you can not get a Tech II, here is what we did at the last dyno without a tech II. Put your truck in tow haul mode and let the truck go thru 1, 2, 3, and into fourth. Then slow down (it will stay in fourth gear), load the dyno (hit the switch) and punch it. It will not switch into 5th while the dyno is loaded. If you overdrive lockout, turn it on. I did not have overdrive lockout and this procedure worked fine. We had to dyno it about ten times until we realized that we needed to be in tow haul mode. We knew something was wrong becuase we were only getting about 260 HP and the dyno spin too fast. With the tow haul mode off the torgue convertor was not engaging in fourth gear and the dyno spooled up way too fast. With the tow haul mode on, I hit 426 HP and a 428 HP. With the tow haul mode on the dyna did not spool up real fast and acted normal. Hope this helps. Maybe someone with a Tech II will let your use it, but make sure you put it in tow haul mode and the torque convertor will lock up sooner in the lower gears. Remember when you are not in tow haul mode the torque convertor will not lock up until 5th gear. Edited by: BassinRVer
