: Can’t use my H2 wheels and tires anymore

Sadly I am looking for someone to trade with, I have a set of H2 wheels and tires, less than 4K miles, with Dodge center caps. I have to go back to stock because I can no longer fit in the garage at work and the local kids are vandalizing cars in the outside lot I part in. I am looking for an even trade for a set of either chrome or aluminum wheels and tires with similar mileage. I am willing to drive up to 150 miles to meet someone, the swap can take place at a rest stop, I will bring a big floor jack. If anyone is interested let me know.

Bertram,

Hello. I just read your post, and thought an idea I am working on may help you. Since the H2 rims and tires add 2" to the height of your truck, plus whatever lift (if any) you put on your truck, you may want to consider going with some form of air adjustable lift for your truck in order to be able to lower it down to drive in garages, etc.

I have a 2004 Chevy with IFS, and I just got my new H2 wheels today, and was thinking of this very problem when I drove my stock truck through the car wash this weekend. I have emailed monroe and gabriel about their air adjustable shocks, but so far have had no luck finding something to fit my truck. Your Dodge should have a taller front shock, that may match one of their existing ones normally for the rear. Both monroe and gabriel claim their shocks can provide up to 1,100 to 1,200 lbs of capacity (combined, 550 to 600 lb each shock), so that should equate to lifting a stock height truck probably 2 inches. Meaning with an on board air compressor and switches, you could raise and lower your truck at will. For the rear axle, I would go with either a Ride Rite or other air bags to do the same.

This assumes your truck is stock height now or only has a minor lift.

Its a thought anyway.

I don't think you can LOWER a truck with shocks of any kind.

Shocks are for dampening not setting ride height. It's conceivable that shocks could be loaded enough to raise a vehicle, but that would seemingly be at the cost of ride quality due to stretching out the suspension or driving with the suspension at some level of droop.

No, for an adjustable ride height the suspension should be replaced with either hydraulics or air bags. Air shocks are probably not a good idea.

well looking at the map it only puts 240 miles between us, 120 makes a halfway point somewheres near hartford CT. not too bad, still thinking it over... did those tires make your fuel mileage suffer? and what load range are those bfg's ? I don't want to go soft and suffer load carying capacity either.

Distance sounds good, I have not noticed any signifiant difference in mileage, I have been multiplying my miles by 1.08 and then dividing by gallons used. My truck has never got over 17.5 MPG, I had the stock tires for the first 12,500 miles then put on the H2 setup, almost 16,000 miles now. The tires are load range D, my truck came with E. I have not heard of any problems with people running the 315s look on the TDR, others may comment here as well. What are the wheels and tires you have?

I have the stockers that came on the 04 2500 on steel chromed rims sizes are :265 70R 17 they have 2500 miles on them. Load range E so I gotta watch if I load it up.. and if we do the switch.... you know of any good stop areas to do the swap?

Cool, what tires are they?, my truck came with the Michelin LTX A/S. I still have them but I do not like the gray steel wheels that came on my truck. It is easier for me to trade these than try and sell them and then buy a set of take offs. Here is a picture of them on the truck, if you want close ups of anything let me know. I do not know any rest areas but I am sure we could find one, I will look on a map.

Even better, my ideal trade would be for chrome wheels with the BFGs if you decide you want to trade just let me know. By the way, I was also thinking you can try my truck to see how smooth they are, there is no vibration at all, as they are factory GM mouted the wheels have very little weight on them. I know what larger tires feel like, I had 33 12.50 15'2 on my 96 bowtie gasser for about 5 years... much smoother ride when ya go up in size.... I'm just not sure how I' gonna like the cast aluminum look with the rest of the chrome on the truck, shame to lose some chrome but oh well life goes on right? I'll keep it in mind and keep ya up to date.

You could always get those H2's chromed down the road if you decided you didn't like them.

Also the D load range tires will be rated for more weight then your smaller E load range tires. At least that is the case between 245 E rated and 265 D rated.

Keep me posted if the trade doesn't happen, I have the chrome and a set of the alloys, your choice. Also just so you know, mine have 15,000 miles.

Well with this Hurricane blowin through doesn't seem like a good weekend for the trade, considder next Saturday? if interested shoot me a pm w phone number so we can figure this out, Gotta post my gunclub property Sunday and it would be nice to have the larger footprint to try to hang on to the lovely red clay mud that has been cause for many a tow strap to lesser capable/ equipt trucks.

Wheels are gone, me and Mikmaze did the swap this morning, truck looks so much smaller and wimpier with the 265s back on it. Oh well at least I can get back in the parking garage now.

Man I've had a garage for the last six years and still can't get a car in it. Has nothing to do with vehicle height.

Yup wheels are on my truck now, if bloody thunderstorms lay low long enough will post new pic of truck w/ the new tire/ wheel combination. Rides great only minor notice of brake feel but that is an adjustment for me to make like when I got the truck new the brakes seemed real strong compared to old truck..... any one doing this much tire swapping in the future bring along your cordless drill, half inch drive adapter and the propper sized socket for the job of removing all those lug nuts once they are loose and on the way back on to snug them. 8 nuts a tire add up quick and the cordless makes quick work of the lighter twisting tasks.

That's for sure on the cordless drill, glad you brought it. Raining very hard here right now, we lucked out, as it was only humid when we did the swap.
