Would like some feedback on which filter to use. Both are about the same price but the napa is easier for me to get. I have searched this issue and read some complaints about the napa filter having the holes close together and the magnet covers them up. Any info or comments would help. Thanks.

There's been quite a bit of discussion about this. If the holes are a concern, I would ask your napa dealer for a 1-8592 instead of the napa gold 7701...

At 5,000 mi I went with allison filter to be safe !! ;)

I've had the NAPA 7701 on mine for 6k miles so far--tranny temps & performance are exactly the same as when I had an allison filter on it...

I'm a traditionalist, and use OEM Allison only. The filter is a well built filter, and can be ordered through many sites, or bought at any Allison dealer. The price is usually $7.98 to $10.00.

I'm not asking for an argument but I'm at the point where I'm sick of NAPA and their inferior (in my opinion, and no offense intended toward any member here) parts. My parts guys think they have to buy everything from our local NAPA dealer. Dont get me wrong, they give us awesome service. You should see what their antifreeze/coolant does to our Aqua Hot on demand diesel fired water heaters. Aqua Hot (Vehicle Systems, FORT Lupton CO) has issued a service bulletin on this matter. I am the tech advisor for our company and have reached a decision, when it comes to filters and fluids YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG USING O.E.M. EQUIPMENT while the vehicle is under warranty! If its painted yeller use CAT filters only, if its blueish green Detroit Diesel filters and Power Cool and Mobile Delvac only, And most importantly if its Allison it better say Allison only with Transynd only. You cannot be shot down for this when it comes to a warranty claim. And if its good enough to keep it in factory warranty its good enough for me. I have no problem with synthetics in diffs. If a customer comes to my shop and wants something different, they have to sign release forms. When you have to go to court, and you show you use o.e.m. equipment it goes alot easier than using NAPA, they do not provide an attorney to assist ya. Sorry for the rant. Go easy me...lol

Do you actually think Napa makes their own coolant? There are 2 or 3 factories in the United States that make EVERYONE'S coolant.
As far as using oem parts and oem parts only, that is also a bunch of hogwash as well. If you want to pay top dollar for that yellow filter, by all means do so. By the same token though, are you going to an Isuzu dealer to buy the oem filter for your duramax? They don't come with an Ac Delco filter from the factory, you know.

I always try to stick with OEM filters, the cost is usually about the same and sometimes cheaper than aftermarket. Besides that the dealer is only going to put on equipment with good quality and warranty since they have to warranty the truck it was put on. You dont think Napa or whomever manufactured the filter gives a hoot about your truck do you. You have to prove that their filter was the problem. If it is an OEM filter then the dealer can only point the finger at themselves if there is a failure of a part or filter. That is my opinion anyway.

Flow of the fluid at those flow rates won't be obstructed enough to affect the efficiency of the filter. Just forces the fluid to pass closer to the magnet - not a bad thing. Napa/Wix filters are just fine if changed at correct intervals (as with any filter.) It does look like Fleet is (A LOT) cheaper than my local Napa dude.

Exactly--As I've said countless times--if you look close you will see that the magnet does'nt cover the holes because they're sloped. Pour your ATF on top of the magnet slowly and watch the fluid drain into the holes.There's also either 1 or 2 more holes than an Ally filter.Fleetfilter,Wix, and Napa Gold for me--absolutely no reason to spend more than need to.

Am I the only one here that's ever heard of the Magnum -Moss Act?It certainly feels that way.Not that statement withstanding,where did anybody here see in print anywhere that GM would not warrant their drivetrains if non--oem filters/lubricants were used?

Yeah--know what you mean.The reason I love to give my humble opinion here is because I don't have to HEAR a different one such as the case with my GF.It's only on a computer screen.By the way,I'm always wrong you know.:rolleyes:

absolutely no temperature differences with napa from oem.

i used napa a couple times and was @ merchants website and was feeling spendy so i ordered 5 or 6 red ones.
