: Loss of power

I just bought a '99 with a 3.54 rear end. Happy, until I took my 26' travel trailer on a test pull. It took forever to get up to hiway speed. I just got rid of a '96 F-250 Powerstroke, and it had lots more power. Previously, I had a '96 Dodge/Cummins, and I remember it as having good power, even in the mountains.

I poked around, under the hood, found nothing obvious, such as loose turbo discharge clamps, air leaks, clogged air filter, etc.

Any ideas for a dummy?

You could try changing the fuel filter.

Check fuel pressure as the lift pump may be dead, also get some gauges in it and see what kind of boost psi and egt's you can get this info can lead you in the right direction to finding the problem. Have the truck scanned to see if there are any codes. Is it a manual or slush box ? It is going to be kinda hard to compare a 12v 96 to a 99 24v they drive different even with the same power, just the difference in the fuel system/eletronic garbage.
