How hard have you treated it? The gov locs aren't meant for drag racing on pavement. Lots of burnouts can destroy them. What they are meant for is excellent off road traction, but they can self destruct if too much power is applied. Pull the cover and check for damage. With only 1000 miles over warranty, gm could possibly POLICY the repair, but with over sized tires, they will probably decline. If you have power adders and like to burn out, you could change to the dodge style limited slip. It is all gear drive and a little more durable, but it doesn't lock up as solid as the gov loc. Fill in your signature so we know what mods your truck has.

IF you find a good dealership, they CAN goodwill it. They may not either, depending on how good they are at customer service. Probably with the lift and tires, they will not, but its worth a shot.

you just need to be honest with them and let them know what is going on. they should help you out, the service manager has the power to goodwill things up to around 80k miles. just don't lie because i honestly hate that when a truck comes in broke and you ask what they were doing. "i was just driving down the road and..."

Most of the time if you are honest with them they will back date the milage for the concern and get it under warranty. The larger tires shouldnt effect it under normal driving conditions but if you are beating on it it will destroy it much quicker. I agree with redws6rocket, i always heard the same thing, All i did was start it, put it in gear and the rod came through the engine block causing the rear diff to explode through the diff cover. What do you mean it wont be under warranty???

Years ago, I was out with some friends in my week-old Z71...had some adult beverages, and was feeling a little immature.

Needless to say, a "ricer" was giving us the 4 cyl. exhaust rev at a stop light, so I put mine in neautral and did the same---
Light turned green, dropped it in "D" at about 2500 rpms and went about 20'. The sounds coming from the chunk after the initial slam were not pretty.

Roadside assist towed me to dealership--I was in Houston from La.
Sevice manager didnt even want to know...too many pieces of metal broken to tell either way, but they fixed it anyway.

I learned never to move trans with engine rev'ed--I don't even do it if I get stuck trying to "rock it"---

Ah, the ol nuetral drop, i think we have all been there. The vehicle should always be moving whether forward or back to perform this move of stupidity. Yes, i have been known to be stupid at times. DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!!

It tends to be a little more embarassing when crap like that happens the older you get / the more expensive the vehicle.

It was kind of tough to call the wife and say I'd be delayed a few extra days due to my new truck needing a new rear end.

She kept wanting me to file a complaint with GM...bblah, blah, blah.
Couldn't bring myself to tell her I caused it.

That's just hilarious - I woulda done the exact same thing. LOL
Although my wife knew me when i was always doing dumbass stunts that can be so much fun (no offense) like this and that... She would have figured it out in a second.

I'm with everyone else - I goodwilled a Titan tranny one time over neutral drops. I would have dropped it if he would have bull****ted me; believe it or not, most dealerships have over 10-15 years experience per tech in the back you dont talk to. They know what's up, because almost every tech i knew did the same crap. LOL.
I went ahead and called nissan north america and explained the truck had 5600 miles over warranty clock and he didnt know better. they said to just keep 'em happy.
He came and picked it up - I told him this one had to be his last freeby tranny, cause we couldnt afford to do it again. He was SUPER thankful and i had a customer for life!

BBC either the governor or the drive ring has some broken teeth in it.
