The Suncoast Converter I got had it stamped all over the front..........You must use the supplied bolts..........

that is why they are included with the new TC.

DO NOT USE THE STOCK ONES ..................at least on the SUNCOAST TC.

If you do not use the bolts supplyed by your converter company, you might be in for a rude awakening if you have to make that dredded phone call. Read the instructions and and follow them carefully.

Lotsa locktite and as much ass as I could put on it with a 15m u socket and my long 3/8 screwdriver handled ratchet. I've got an IR 1/2 impact, 600+ is what its rated at.....duno if I would have the nuts to crank it down full bore with that

BTW. I would start all the bolts and then tighten em. I tried to get lazy and I couldnt get one started, had to back em off to get #5 in there(the last one went). Also might wana have someone looking into the inspection cover to make sure the converter is getting sucked down nice and even when you start cranking on the first one. And I was able to use a long prybar to push up on the lugs of the stocker but the cover on the SC is much closer to the flexplate so I made me a tool. Just a peice of 1/8" or thick flatstock 1" wide or so with one end whitled down to .5 or so. One guy spinning the motor with another guy tightening the bolts works well. JMO

I got a snapon scanner if you wana meet up and blast your taps and set her to fast learn. I'm bouncing between spr. and peoria

phil, you like doing things twice? Look for the pink blotch of paint, thats the hole that is elongated, start that one first and tighten, allthe rest will line up.. If you dont start with that one, your gonna go around twice.

No I dont, thats why I started and tightend the first one and then went onto #2-4 couldnt get 5 startedhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif but 6 went in without incedenthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Had to losen them all and start #5(not a problem with em not tight) and then tighten them all. The pink blotch on the flywheel I assume? Viewable through the starter hole or the inspection cover? I now have an explitive on the converter marking the spot were the no starty bolt was, probably the pink marked one too. Man was I pissed at that point.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

Things you learn after droping countless allisons huh?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Tongue.gif

Phil, learned that trick years ago. All GM trannies have a "master" hole in the flywheel to start first..

I havent had enough gonads to drop a trany in a year old truck till this one, all the other ones i have seen musta been gone years before. They also wernt as much of a PITA to turn over as the duramax/allison combo. Generaly the nut and bolt config too

Thanks for the tiphttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

now that is some old stuff!

Its real fun dropping the trans on a truck with 6 miles on it...before it even gets sold! We had a silent recall on a bunch of 04's with the 4L80E, they did some changes but didnt change the pump, they would burn up with less then 20 miles on them, had to pull em, fix the pump and reassemble..

i think i have the taps handled ratlover, i have a quadzilla that can make the tranny go into relearn. dont know if that is as good as the tech 2 but you guys will tell me i am sure of that. got the tranny down and out lastnight, but got side tracked and the old man isnt home today. need help since this trans is the very first trans that i have transplanted. any tips or secerets to aid in it going back in. whats a good break in procedure. when i pour in the tranysnd in, how much should i put in to be able to safely start it????

You do not have the TAPs handled at all. Quad will not do it. He does not have the code from GM nor will he ever. He may be able to adjust the adverse effect his program has on the TCM, but that is about it.

I was thinking of buying a quad for the code clearing and tap reseting feature and as another toy to play with but have been told it dosnt work too wellhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Duno....so I just bought a used snapon scanner. If you do zap em with the quad I'd still be interested in taking a look at it with my scanner to see if everything has been sent to fast learn. Nobody seems to have looked at one after they used the quad to see what all it blasts and I am quite curious.

I'm thinking I put in 2 gallons, started it then dumped in another 2 and started it and clicked through the gears and I set a code when it sucked air(I felt the truck feel like it throw itself into N) and then dumed the rest in. It did set a code and kick off the ses light, cleared it though with a snappon scanner, although I am having problems clearing trany codes with mine because I dont have the "genaric" key to go into the genaric diagnostic mode.

I think I made a post in this forum about my findings. 2 actually, one juiced trany autopsy and another titled my suncoast experiences or something like that.
