http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gifThis morning I had my pyro and turbo gauges installed. Instead of installing the probe on the passenger side exhaust, they mounted it on the driver side and they did not have to take off the plastic.
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifI have my predator on level 3, and from a takeoff dead-still my pyro goes to 1300. It doesn't stay for long, but will it hurt anything if it is that hot for a breif period of time?Edited by: dmaxfan

I was thinking of putting my EGT probe from mu Juice on that side...I have the pass side probed now with pillar gauge. I could compare sides then. Do you have any pict? 1300 won't hurt anything. 1400 for short bursts are ok too. Now 1600....? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifThanks for the response! I don't have a camera. I might borrow a friends later, but I'll tell you where it is.
Look at the highest point on your driverside tire. look back toward the engine and you will see the top shock mount. Straight back and about 2 inches to the right and you see the exhaust manifold without any thing covering it up.
I hope it helps.

Short bursts you will be alright, dont hold it there though. Some have seen 1800+ for short bursts.

I put my attitude probe in the driver's side since I have my Isspro A-pillar gauge already in the passenger side. I just crawled under and drilled straight up into the rear of the driver's side manifold just forward of the rear flange (just forward of the oil filter mount. Accessible, nothing to move or remove - IS a bit of a reach and PITA with the tap wrench. This is not my install - but it is my location:

This is a picture of the driver's side exhaust manifold off of a 02 Duramax courtesy of Kennedy. I believe this is the reason most are going on the passenger side and not the drivers side. I guess if you miss that narrow spot you should be fine.

That narrow spot coincides with a "dent" in the outside of the manifold to clear the steering shaft. You can see the "dent" in the heat shield forward of where the probe is mounted in the picture I posted (and the black steering shaft - which doesn't even come close).

Thanks Idle_Chatter, now I know.

I just installed mine on the D/S just as shown above, and it works great. Now I can compare left and right banks....(assuming both gauges are spec'd the same) I will find out tonight going home from work.

Some of us were discussing that depression in the driver's manifold and why it would be there when there are really no steering shaft clearance issues at Kennedy's GTG in June. I suspect that it may be a "multi-use" casting for more than just the DMax and may be necessary on a larger engine (8.1?) or in another model with clearance issues, although the medium duties (Kodiak) should have a lot more engine compartment space.

So how did it turn out?
