How do I check and set timing on my '95 6.5TD Burb. Also, how can I "jump" the lift pump to make sure it is running?

To check lift pump with engine off put truck in Drive and turn key to start with the window down you should hear the lift pump. I used this to prime the fuel filter after changing.

really need a scanner to do it accurately...
