Ok... I have been wanting an exhaust brake for my truck for a while now.


I've heard the Banks Brake doesn't sound like a normal exhaust brake. It may be a silly request, but I'd like for it to sound more like a semi's exhaust brake if possible. Anyone know who makes the most reliable one out there for starters, and also how they sound?

You won't get the Jake brake sound from an exhaust brake. It will make more of a hissing sound. I have had the BD for a couple years now with an upgraded pressure switch and it has worked flawlessly.

Yeah, I did some research. It'd be nice to actually have an ENGINE brake versus an exhaust brake, I'd like the sound. It'd be interesting to come up to a stoplight with some ricer... "Brummmmmm BRUMMMMMMM"


Still thinking about it. Figure that it'll eventually "pay" for itself when I don't have to put pads on as often, plus whenever I tow I'm sure I'll appreciate it.

Engine retarders are not legal for use in most cities. One definate downfall.

If you want a Freightliner sound, you just hafta go BUY a Freightliner. The other choice, if you want to impress the ricers, is a 5" exhaust. Much cheaper than a big rig. And real loud too.

I want to SCARE them. I'm getting a Banks brake here shortly so that'll be better than nothing.
