i am new here i've got an 04 2500hd crew cad 4x4

i'm in the market for a chip but can't decide on which one. i have read a long thread about this and, although informative, i still can’t decide the post ended saying that it all depends on what you want and how you will use the truck.

i will not tow with this truck and will haul less than 1800lbs at any one time.

i will drive it every day around town and i don't want the embarrassment of it not starting at my customer’s place of business the long hauls will be rarely on the weekends

i want the fun factor, wheel spin, for showing off and for stress relief on the few occasions i get really upset and want to blow off some steam.

i want the "put you in the seat feel" when you put it to the wood

i don't want to tow and i don’t want to drag race

i want a smooth driving, shifting dependable truck 95% of the time

the other 5 % i want a funnnn! kick in the pants truck to play with

my first thought was the banks six gun bundle- big power increases at the lower rpms where i will drive it more, not many long hauls for me, and the safety features for durability

the edge seems like it has more kick in the pants fun to drive to it from what i have read in some of past threads.

so 95% putting around and 5% thrill banks or the edge?

also it's not the lly

Either one sounds like it would meet your needs. You will find that the majority of the members favor the Juice.

I don't have any experience with the Six-Gun so I won't comment on it. I have several Juice modules and I have tested many different versions of code. The Edge is the standard that other modules are compared to and their customer service is great.

Just remember that the power is addictive... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Well you stated that you did not want to tow and maybe only haul about 1800 lbs, then you stated that you wanted to tow and not drag race, so which is it?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

i don't want to tow and i don't want to drang race

sorry

i just want a light duty truck that is fun to drive

i have a 97 2500 6.5td bone stock that gets the job done now. this new truck will replace it for the most part. i just want to kick it up.

by the way i love my 97 and have worked it a long time it has never let me down. it's a good truck 210,000 miles and going strong

While it may not be too strong for you it sure will be for your stock tranny. You could get a Quad tuner with the lesser horsepower tunes along with the 215 but I would not see the need if you would never use it.

A Juice and Attitude combo would get you what you desire and you would have a set of gauges to boot. I like my Quad but it is a race only unit for me.

well so far thats 1 for the juice

i'm leaning>>>>>>> to the juice

and then may be the banks exhaust and big head

any one else, maybe with first hand knowlge of the fun factor between the juice and the six gun?

I have the banks 6 gun/speed loader, with the monster exhaust.

Trust me, it's still a good kick in the pants to be able to take off like I can. Longevity is what I was looking for since I'm on a restricted income and can't just drop a tranny tomorrow and get a new one tuesday.

I scare people with how fast this thing will go as it is.

Down the road I think I'll be getting an edge and stage 3 tranny once my stock transmission starts acting wonky. Until then, I'm staying with the 6 gun because it's treated me good so far.

thanks SpoolinTurbo

i don't want to shell out the bucks for the whole package and then say, oh well thats alittle better than it was.

i want to to tell my freinds that it's more than worth every $$$$ and mean it.

i dont think i will blow the tranny stomping on it once in while but i don't want it to go in to limp in mode every time i do. thats what the juice might do --- i think?

I think the concensus of opinion is that anything over 90 HP additional input will take out the Allison. Of course it does vary some depending on individual driving habits and certain trucks seem to do okay above that level, but they seem to be in the minority.

That being said, I think either of the two will do a number on your trans at the higher levels. How good is your self control?

If you want a boost that's not going to hurt your trans, the TTS Tow Tune will get you about 60 HP, and all the members who have it rave about it. Plus there's no way you'd be tempted to "push the button" on either of the other two...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Cheapskate, trust me when I say it's worth what I paid for in terms of looks, sound, and performance. I haven't had any issues with my transmission yet and I had oh... around 2000 miles on the truck when I installed the banks 6 gun, about 17000 when I could afford the exhaust, 18500 when I installed the speed loader (had to get a tap and my courage up to drill on the header) and I'm at 20545 right now.

As for your choices, there's a ton. I don't have any personal experience with the Edge products, but many people here do and LOVE it. At the same time many of the guys here are upgrading their transmissions as well.

Before I bought the Banks stuff, I had a Hypertech programmer. The hypertech at its highest has less total power but it throws you in the seat more. It's a rough ride with it, it's real hard on the transmission. IE you drop the hammer and it's on alright, but the way it feels it can't be good for the truck.

The Banks is very smooth. I know a guy on here is selling one used but with a never installed pyro, I'd go for that one. MSRP or Banks both make quality exhausts, it depends on what you're going for.

If you do buy the Banks stuff, you won't be dissapointed. It's definately noticable from level 1 to level 6 the difference, and there is a noticeable difference between having just the 6 gun and having the speed loader installed as well. The exhaust also adds a noticeable difference in performance. Plus it sounds damn good as well.

Some dodge dakota extended cab decided to line up next to me. He got me off the line simply because I didn't even know he wanted to go. I was in T/H and level 6, and I went from his tailgate to waaay out in front in one block.. and he had it floored. Granted, no real kill to brag about, but it's still fun to toy with people in a crew cab diesel pickup truck with a bunch of junk in the back.

Either way you go, you will be pleased. Depending on your personal monetary situation, I might recommend the path I am taking. Banks toys until the tranny's had it, then I'll probably be trying to mirror MTomac's truck, but silver with a lift and 35's.. LOL

Might as well emulate a good role model, eh? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifEdited by: SpoolinTurbo

I love my juice. Juice puts down more power than a 6 gun. 90hp is about the limit for a no worries allison IMO. Some hold more some dont but I'd say 90 is the max you can take without fear. So with that if you keep it to 90 hp gain then you wont be using all the juice anywho. The attitued is pretty cool and gives you lotsa fun options and buttons though.

Juice has never let me down. Edge is also a great co to deal with. i had a pyro die and they sent me a new one in 2 days. Then I sent in the old for them to disect.

Any chip even a 30 hp one will make your truck feel like a new vehical.

Dont need to fool with the wastegate either IMO.

On exhaust I would try to see some systems and hear em up close before you buy. Sound is very subjective. performance is all about the same though.

The Van Aaken 70/110 is a sweet little number IMHO.

Does anyone know how the hypertech compares to the juice on 90hp? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

SpoolinTurbo,

Do you have version 1 or 2 on the 6-gun? From my experience, the new version compares quite favorably to the Juice. Level 5 on mine matches my friends Edge/w attitude 125hp in a race...

SpoolinTurbo

Still have version one. Haven't got the cash to mail it in to get it reprogrammed.

As for the sound of a banks exhaust, I'll see what I can do about getting some sound of my truck driving around. The last time I tried my PDA didn't make a good recording. Probably will just put my PDA on the ground and drive around/by it and see what kinda noise it makes then.

Hypertech doesn't compare. Predator is closer to a std. Juice, but it doesn't feel equal. Anybody?

SpoolinTurbo,

The reflash is free. Just call them to get an RGA# and pay for the freight back. You'll be suprised by the newfound power.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

If there's any way you can swing, it, Spoolin', we'd still love to see before and after dyno numbers...
