I am looking at and all but signed the papers on a 2002 Chevy 2500HD Ext cab short bed LS with the duramax. It has about 69k on it and I can get it for about $28k. It is in great shape and seems to run well. It did have the attachmant for a goose neck trailer in the bed but has since been covered and a bed liner sprayed in.

This will be my first diesel and I will not be towing anything significant for a few years.

Any Advice?

Probably a good truck but seems a little pricey.....let's see, two years old going on 3.....almost 70K....not that these trucks age with miles like a sedan.....but still some miles.

For exmple I bought my 01, in August of 02. So mine was a year old going on 2. It had roughly 30K on it, and I paid 28. Mine was in awesome shape and really had no visual or mechanical issues. It wasn't an LT......but wasn't stripped either. Had the middle of the road package for that year.

Now these trucks have gained a repuatation as good buys and I can see the price going up some but jeez......I live in NY.......the state who's lawmakes envy Kalifornia and the states east of us who are the only places that are more expensive to live.

25-26 seems more in line......then again my truck still books for 24 and it now has 82K on it...........I guess these things really do hold their value.

I dunno......hopefully someone else will give an opinion.

AEMedic,

I hope you've done your research on Kelley Blue Book And NADA first. Also, have you gotten a history for it?

I agree with 403turbo...$28 seems kinda high. I bought my '02 fully loaded crew in Aug '03 w/26000 miles (it was a beginning-of-model-year buy by original owner) for $31,500. That was a good $3000 less than bluebook at the time.

Just do your homework before you buy. These trucks are worth the $$.

Try to find out what the truck was pullin. Some times dealers will try to hide the holes with a bed linner. Do a vin search.

Thanks for all the quick responses!

I have a clean carfax on it, nothing listed... other than it was registered in Manitoba Canada... the truck is really clean inside and out.

The dealer does not know what it was used to tow just the evidence of the goose neck attachment that was repaired and covered with the spray in liner.

I check both KBB and NADA and they both have it valued at right around $30k for average retail.\

I think I've seen postings about Canadian trucks and US warranties, but I don't remember if that's a problem or not. Are all the gauges SAE or Metric?

You ought to post the VIN asking for a records check in the "Ask the Techs" section. One of them will run the VIN through GM's computers and find the maintenance/warranty history for you.

if it was sold/registered in Canada, make sure its been switched to a US truck, some canadian vehicles could run into warranty problems in the US...

Post the VIN in the ask the Techs section for a report on warranty work.

I dont think 28 is that far out of line. At least not around my area...I have seen them give big bucks for ratted out trucks...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

sounds high to me. is it a 4x4? i would go to a local dealer and find a similar truck on the lot and see if you can buy it for invoice minus rebates. i think it will suprise you. i bought my 04 CC 4x4 in september of 03(04's just released) with a sticker of 42,300 for 34,900. this was at invoice(dealer printed me a copy) minus $2600 rebates. they will sell one to anyone like that. i am sure that the rebates are at least $4000 with the 05's due out anytime. as stated do your homework. if you love it and are happy, just buy it! wil

Well that might have been a good idea a month ago, but GM cut off the big rebates on the Dmax's if there are any left. Check the fine print on the ads they are currently running, diesels are excluded...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gifIn my opinion, it's simply supply and demand. In an area where there aren't many for sale, they can ask whatever the market will bear. Arm yourself with as much information as possible going into the haggling; CarFax report, Kelly B. B. prices, what similiar vehicles sold for locally, etc. E-Bay provides a broader picture for pricing, and I'd drive cross country to save $$$, but it's hard to "kick the tires" on a truck out West when you're in the East. I know there are services that will do an inspection for a fee, but I'm not sure how reliable they would be. I certainly would like some kind of assurances before I parted with that kind of money. Enough said; if you get a good one, you'll love it. And good luck. Edited by: Black Max

Fairchild AFB? Thats a hoop & holler from one of the cheapest source of new Duramax in Kellogg ID. It'd be worth the trip over to chk what a new'un would go for ~
