What is the lightest anybodies got a reg. long bed?
What is the lightest anybodies got a xcab short bed?
Twisted Diesel crew has got both & can't decide which we want to build into our strictly pulling/drag shop truck. The reg cab is a 03 w/ 60k & the xcab is a 01 w/ 80k. Both trucks are extremly clean & paid for. The truck will be built for race only application & we've got mixed ideas on which to use.

What do you guys think?

I've had my x-cab down to 6240lbs. That is with 1/4 tank fuel, no back/passenger seats, no nerf bars, one battery, no tailgate, race tires/stock wheels.

An RC will be about 200 lighter even after you pull the back seat.

We were 6420lb with me in the EC truck, so it's about 6140 unladen. This was before the rollbar though. Figure 5940 for an RC at the same level.

Do you have to bring the roll bar out the back window on a EC truck?

I didn't. I went to the back of the cab floor.

That is nice to know...I wasn't sure if there was minimum angle that the back bar of the roll bar had to comply to . I haven't check into it yet.

I remember you talking about it a few weeks back, but I hadn't seen any pictures or read any posts about it being done until now. Did I miss something or what?

Anyway, what did you do to get your truck down to 6140? Anybody know how light you can get a CC without completely gutting the interior?

I'd build the reg cab! Easy 10 second pulling truck on #2 only!

The reg cab will be lighter. Moss got his down to 6100 IIRC by just removing the easy stuff and not realy lightening it. The roll bar deal is one thing to think about though. If you dont care about running a bar though the back though then go for it. Lighter is better. Plus the lighter the truck is the more weight you can place up front for pulling :D

Josh my new one only weighs 6790 no driver, low fuel. Just like it came from the factory, and with plow mounts, tire chains and etc on it as well. Lets see, plow mount 120, tires chains 75, back seat 150, battery 30, hitch 40, spare 40, tailgate 40, misc 25. Most likely 6300 or so would be max for a crew cab without driver.

I taking a RCLB and moving the rear spring hangers 14" forward and 2"up and cut the excess frame off to mount a 6.5"bed that will be all aluminum and fiberglass, compleatly removing the spare tire support and replacing it with a smaller cross member to mount the rear shocks to, fuel tank is gone and replaced with a fuel cell, Interior is gutted, just two corbeau seats with a roll bar. The leaf springs will just be two leaves, one battery on the frame. I don't know what I'm doing with the front bummper yet 100% I have a street scen cover comming so I don't how much of the steel bumper I'll have to use.

This truck is on a serious diet. Now if I could only do somthing about the driver

My truck with ¼ tank of fuel weighs around 5700 with no spare. I roughly figured if I removed some things like the hitch, running boards, 2nd battery, rear bumper and went to roll pan, aluminum wheels, glass hood, remove tailgate, and more…. I could get it down to around 5200lbs maybe? These HD frames weight allot! My old truck was a ’84 Chev ¾ ton with a small block but the same truck and it only weighed 4300lbs.

I bet its around a 750-1000lb difference! You could go with a lighter rearend, like a 9inch or 12 bolt and loose atleast a few hundred more. Then the wheels and tires would be more pounds off.

and it is not like the 1/2 ton chassis arnt weak either. a built D60 weighs about 600-700 pounds compared to the 11.5 14 bolt which i bet is closer to 1200 not to mention rotating mass is reduced as well.. the 10.5 14bolt in my 84 dually is close to 1100# shoot the drums themselves wiegh 110 each
with a gutten interior, 1/2 ton chassis, 9"/12bolt/60 for the rear, rc/sb or lb with driver you could get really close to 5000 or under.

then if you want to get really drasic the side impact beam inthe doors are worth 20#, the front/rear bumper and so on
