I've convinced myself my A/C just started working differently, but I might be hallu. I'd appreciate it if a couple of '01 owners with manual (no automatic temp stuff- just knobs) A/C controls could verify this:

My A/C compressor runs any time the recirc button is selected and recirc led is lit (assuming blower on at some speed and air mode set to dash vents), even though the A/C button led stays off.

I was thinking the compressor did not run in recirc unless I selected the A/C button. I posted the full painful details in Ask the Techs if anybody is really that fascinated :)

TIA

On edit- Just realized I clicked wrong forum; this should be moved to 2500/3500 Trucks.

My 02 does the same thing.
Going to central Texas last week it froze up. Had to turn it off completely and then I turned on the recirc and it went to cooling good. Go figure.

Thx for checking. I've always hated mfg's dictating to me, as in no headlights without running lights, and mandatory chiller on when they think appropriate. A simple switch would always suffice, though. Now, like everything else, it's software. It wouldn't surprise me if the ecm monitors for the relay coil presence or current. Don't see any air temp vs. compressor operation checking, though.
