so i went snowboarding this weekend with the g/f and on my trip back from her town to mine, i noticed a strange grinding noise coming from the rear-central part of the under body. Of course this got me nervous. only on deceleration would it make this griding noise. So i got home, got to work, drove home after work and it was getting worse. So before i went home i thought i would stop and look to see whats going on. I pulled up to the gas station and looked at the diff... and sure enough, the housing was wet. i drove to the dealership and told them to take a look at it and ends up that they are gonna have to rebuild the rear end on my 2006 truck already...I do a lot of highway driving and i have about 21,000 miles on the truck. Im kinda dissapoited cause i hate being without a vehicle, plus they will have it for over a week. At least its covered on warantee though...

I also have an '06 and my rear differential was grossly underfilled by the factory (took 2 additional quarts of grape juice to get it up to correct level) just after driving it off the lot. Did you happen to check the fluid level in this truck?

That might explain the failure (although I can't see any problem with Chevy handling the matter under warranty).

If they do any work on it, have them show you the fluid level before you drive it away.

If they are going to have the vehicle for over a week, then they should supply you a loaner. Read your warrantee! Call GM & gripe if they don't give you something to drive!
If this is the dealer that you bought the truck from, it should be a no brainer for them!

Just don't let them put you in a Chevette or a Yugo! :D

I would want to know what caused the failure, no reason it shoudl have and you dont want ot do that again in another 21,000

Mine leaked a little so I took it into the dealership, they changed my engine oil and replaced the gasket on the rear end cover and filled her back up.
Someone told me from the factory they aren't full so the gears break in faster????

Anyway As soon as I saw that leak I took it right in to avoid rear end damage.

Did they hassle you about the lift?

well they have all the parts ordered. new ring/pinion bearings and gaskets on the way. i did not check the level after purchase.

the dealership put the lift on from factory and they havent said anything about the lift causing the failure. I have a feeling that either the vent got plugged got too hot and blew that pinion seal and eventually ruined that bearing. Not sure exactly what happend, but thats just my .2

They did give me a loaner 07 tahoe. just waiting on the parts to arrive monday, and hopefully they will hurry up and get it done right. Hope the tech doesnt install is half/hazardly. i suppose ill get the extended drivetrain warantee. i also have a programmer that they said nothing about.

so far, the customer service is alright, i cant complain. the dealership up here is short handed and always busy. i will check the fluid level before i leave. thanks for all the info guys!

If you can afford it this would be the time to regear to 4:10, that would save you half the cost of the swap.
