: To Reflash or NOT to Reflash?

Looking for opinions....Have '01 D/A going in for injectors as soon as they're available(#2 injector balance in the +7 area). When they wrote the RO on my truck to order the injectors they told me(which I knew) that NO updates had ever been reflashed. Question is....should I? The truck has run great and has not had any/many of the noted problems that early ones usually were reflashed for. I have the slight idle lope w/cold engine in cold ambient but was never bothersome. I truly average(unloaded) 19+mpg in mixed driving and have seen 21+mpg at moderate hwy speed. Never really experienced any 5-4 shifting busyness but Texas is pretty flat. I tow a small camper(3Klbs) at 17ish mpg. I am planning to upsize to a larger camper/small5er but plan to stay in the sub 7Klb range. If they will do the injectors WITHOUT any reflash update would that be your advice or let them reflash. I understand that it's an "all or nothing"...right? Your experiences/opinions are appreciated.

What the heck is this reflash thingy. I have not heard of that. As far as your mileage, how fast is your speedo and how many rpms. I got 18ish going 71 and rpms at 2k.

Had my early built 2002 truck reflashed earlier in the year with the most recent updates (both ECM and TCM). Nothing detrimental happenned as a result. Truck works fine. It even tows better now, not as much downshifting (shift busyness). I am certain there are other coding errors that were cleaned up (and not advertised as such).

I would get it done. Make sure they do both ECM and TCM. That way you can install the Overdrive Lockout if you want someday.

If you reflash you will get all the updates that have been handed down by G.M.

Had mine updated for above noted conditions and seemed to have corrected both the cold idle lope and shift busyness. Just be aware that once you have the updates done you can't go back to the original programming.Edited by: TC Dmax

I had mine update and one of the changes was the cruise control. Before the upgrade the cruise would hold the speed exactly but it would downshift immediately on any slight incline when towing. After the update, the cruise will allow the truck to bleed off up to 4 MPH before forcing a downshift, giving the engine time to add power.

Another update was for the 2-1 hard downshift.

updates for the trucks are like computers, They contain fixes to many problems found over time, seems you would be better off with the new flash.

don't suppose there's any way to tell what the latest version is for both the ecm and the tcm loaded on your truck without a scan tool of some kind? Also, don't guess there's a posting of what the latest version available is?
