: A friend needs new heads. '01 LB7. Aftermarket or stock?
06DMAX00CAMSS 01-07-2007, 03:21 PM A friend of mine claims he needs new heads. He has it in the shop and can't decide if he wants to buy a set of new factory heads or while he's there, upgrade to an aftermarket. Is there even aftermarket heads for a '01 LB7? If not, I guess he has no choice but to buy stock ones. You can a new set from GMPD for $1015.04 delivered.

dmaxalliTech 01-07-2007, 03:47 PM Dont buy them new. Both Guy at So Cal and myself stock used heads and reconditioned heads
06DMAX00CAMSS 01-07-2007, 03:49 PM Really. How much?
TwoFast4Lv 01-07-2007, 04:16 PM on this same line of questioning...
I have looked some but not done a search so it may be a stupid question.
Just how different is the LLY stuff? Just how hard would it be to used the top end off a LLY yet retain the standard turbo?
Like I said i have not done a full search, shop is very busy, but would it be possible to use the heads assembly's and better injectors from an LLY?
My reasoning? If a person is going to spend the money, and alot of it, why not upgrade to the more dependable injector setup?
After soome of the off the wall conversions we have done it does not seem all that far from doable. If ,and I have no idea ,It will all bolt together the only thing left would be sensor adaptation and usinging the correct turbo and programing.
Like I said it may be a stupid question . . . .

ZR1160 01-08-2007, 10:55 AM Biggest problem is the injectors, they are not the same, and work differently. the heads would bolt on but you also need to change everything else to make them work. Not a simple swap
Pure Diesel 01-08-2007, 11:05 AM I would head stud the thing too. If your going to do any mods, good investment, too.
06DMAX00CAMSS 01-08-2007, 10:48 PM Ummm...what happened to the answer for the original poster? I've been hijacked again.
dmaxalliTech, I PMed asking you how much factory used and reconditioned heads were, you read the message, but didn't reply.

I thought I did...Did the link work?
06DMAX00CAMSS 01-08-2007, 11:38 PM I don't think he wants to spend $2000. I didn't know that was my only option.
dmaxalliTech actually posted that he sold used and reconditioned heads, but he never gave me pricing and availability.
TwoFast4Lv 01-09-2007, 12:37 AM Sorry I did not mean to Hijack your thread. I was wondering if it was an option ;) I am still looking to see what the injector difference is ;)
06DMAX00CAMSS 01-10-2007, 07:50 PM dmaxalliTech, what's the difference between buying a set of reconditioned heads and a new set from GM? The new set comes with injector tubes, guides, and seats.
06DMAX00CAMSS 01-11-2007, 09:57 PM Yours comes with valve seals, valve job, and decked.
What's better? I have not a clue. Its for a friend. I'm needing advice for him. Thanks.
dmaxalliTech 01-11-2007, 11:07 PM I'm not gonna have anything better per say. Thats a good price from GMPD. I dont know for sure if they still do, but at one time there was a core charge on these heads. Just double check on that.
