: Cruise Control Not Engaging

I was recently driving down the highway and attempted to use the cruise control. I slid the lever and pushed the button multiple times in various combinations but nothing happened. It did not engage and the green light did not display on the dash. I stopped the truck and turned off the key to clear the computer. After a minute or less wait, I restarted the truck and headed on down the road. This time the cruise control engaged as nothing was wrong.

I am also familar with a 2003 Duramax/Allison that has done the same thing on many occasions. The 2003 was taken to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the problem and did not attempt a repair.

Is this a common or known problem and if so, is there a bulletin on it???

Thanks.

My 2003 did the same thing numerous times when it was new. Shutting it off and restarting it solved it ever time. Also tapping the brakes seemed to solve it the last few times I had problems.

I have experienced this problem on my 03 several times. I learned by accident that the brakes are disengaging the cruise and sometimes it sticks. I can tap the brakes and fix the problem each time it happens.

So, what is implied here is that the brake pedal is stuck to some degree, preventing the cruise from activating. I'm wondering if it the pedal has to be depressed to the point of lighting the rear brake lights before the cruise will shut off. Thanks for the insight, I will have to do some testing.

On mine the brake lights were not on. I ran a light inside to confirm.

My truck has done this several times as well. I suppose I should mention it to the dealer next time it is in.
