hdmax 08-07-2004, 12:13 AM Maybe I missed it, but what is the Cetane number? I know before they guaranteed it to be above 47, I wonder it it is 50+ now.
Flying-J is where I have purchased 95% of my diesel sense day one.
problemchild 08-07-2004, 12:40 AM My buddy got about 1 or 2 gallons of water with his tank of fuel from the J
rdenman3 08-07-2004, 04:22 PM I have been using Flying J almost exclusively for 35K and have had no issues, no WIF light and no noticeable water in the filters when changed.
JEBar 08-08-2004, 06:28 AM I've never been able to tell any difference when using high test or regular fuel or that matter when using or not using additives, it will be interesting to see if their new fuel (which I am sure will sell for a higher price) will give our truck better performance ... when away from home we make every effort to fuel at Flying J's, we now have well over 72,000 miles on our 3500 and never gotten bad fuel from them

Spinmaster 08-08-2004, 08:10 AM Damm the closest one to me is 31 miles away. Alittle far just to get a fill up. I run BP in mine.
Black Max 08-08-2004, 08:14 AM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifI don't recall seeing any Flying J stations in our area, but I'd try some fuel there if I saw one on the road. I'm thinking that one can get water in fuel anywhere or anytime, and that that might tend to be an issue with the individual station, and not necessarily the supplier. But I would stay away from a station if I did pick up some water there; if you get it once, you might get it again! Just my 2 cents.
White Duramax 08-09-2004, 09:19 AM Flyin J is a big truck stop, you usually only see them on interstates. I havent seen the premium there, but havent stopped there in a couple weeks, they have more more expensive than local stations.
LARSONEM 08-09-2004, 12:33 PM Noting wrong with BP or Amoco fuel either. Amoco Premier Diesel is very highly rated and the cetane is supposed to be at least 50.
Carbon04 08-09-2004, 04:30 PM Black Max, there is a flying J at the new truckstop on Ryan Rd. and 45. There fuel is generally 2-3cents cheaper a gallon then all of the others
Black Max 08-10-2004, 08:49 AM Out of curiousity, I emailed from a link on the Flying J web site about the cetane rating of their "premium fuel". From the information they provided, it would make sense why some of you guys haven't noted any differences in mileage or performance while using it; there doesn't seem to be much difference as compared to regular fuel. As info, I've enclosed a copy of what they sent me.
Carbon04, did you mean Ryan Rd and I94 in Oak Creek? Isn't Ryan Rd and 45 in Franklin near Hwy 36? Do you fuel there, and if so, do you notice any difference? Thanks
(COPY OF E-MAIL.....read from bottom up)
Virginia,
The minimum cetane number required by ASTM for diesel in the US is 40. The
diesel we sell will meet or exceed 40. However, cetane will vary from
refiner to refiner and where we have many suppliers, it is very difficult
to post a cetane number. Having said this, our customers can be assured the
diesel we sell is purchased from the highest quality suppliers in the area.

That was an informative email about NOTHING! If I read it right, it said; Our fuel meets or exceeds ASTM standards.
Woo Hoo! What the he!! is the big benefit of the new fuel then?
Carbon04 08-10-2004, 04:47 PM Black Max, yes you are right I meant Ryan rd. and I94 in franklin/oak creek........I have filled up since it opened. The truck runs pretty much the same with their fuel upposedd to the Pilot across the street. Flyin J is usually a few cents cheaper and it doesn't have 10years of diesel fuel grime on the pump handle.
Frank Blum 08-10-2004, 09:55 PM If you had a score card you couldn't keep up with who buys from where. We have four refineries in the Salt Lake City area that supplies fuel to ten different brands. One of the refineries is a Flying J. They are .08 to .10 cheaper. I buy from them when I go to the big city. I will look for their premium. Later! Frank
Custom Home Builder 08-10-2004, 10:00 PM does anyone know if there is a flying j in gilbert arizona or surronding cities. also what is the best fuel in the gilbert arizona area?
BIGMoe 08-11-2004, 12:09 AM It all depends on the Flying J. I have always run Flying J since I got the 1998 Dodge/Cummins. My local Flying J has always had good fuel. Well 3 years ago while pulling my 5er on vacation I stopped at one of the Flying J's In Rapid City S.D. I made it down the road about 200 miles and really started loosing power. By the time I got into Minnesota I couldn't keep up with the 65 mph. I finally got into a Dodge dealer and had them change the fuel filter, it only had 3000 miles on it. Well I made it back to Milwaukee and back with no problems. After 3 more fuel filter changes I had to finally have my fuel tank cleaned, I got a slug of some kind of sludge and have always blamed it on that Flying J. Never will I fuel up there again. I was also one of the worst looking Flying J's I had been in.
traveler11 08-11-2004, 01:54 AM As far as I know, the closest flying J to Gilbert, Az is At I-10 and 67th st. I have a 45 gal tank in an 04 and work at the airport, so I try to make it worth while to go over there. Other than that, I use Shell at Lindsey and Warner. Don't have any info if it is better than others, though.
Black Max 08-12-2004, 08:29 AM Black Max, yes you are right I meant Ryan rd. and I94 in franklin/oak creek........I have filled up since it opened. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gifMy Dad lives in South Milwaukee, so next time I get that way I'll have to pay attention to the stations. I've been buying my gas in East Troy to avoid the reformulated, so don't pay much attention to the stations in town anymore. The Flying J by you just sells one grade of fuel? They don't offer a premium? Thanks
