With only 3500 miles on the 6.6 TURBO it gave such a LOUD engine knocking, stalling, and jerking (looking in my rear view mirror) a large cloud of BLACK SMOKE trailed. This is my first Diesel truck and must say this S*** is not what I expected out of this truck. The truck is sitting at a GMC dealer now.

Can anyone please shed some light on this and what I can expect. I have no problem torching the thing. Thanks for your help in advance fellow members.

Sounds like a bad injector to me.

socaldieseltech,

What dealership do you work at in SoCal (if you don't mind sharing that info). We have one tech on the forum that works at MK Smith Chev in Chino. Always good to know where techs are that have experience with the DMAX.

I'm at Nicholas. I've worked at other shops too. I do all the diesels there, from 6.5's to medium-duty.

Thanks for the reply. Truck runs great so far. Had it in once to Classic Chevrolet in Anaheim Hills for the steering intermediate shaft lube job. I asked if they had ever changed an injector and the service manager said no. OK - I know where I won't be going if I need serious "open heart surgery" on the LB7 injectors.

Yeah, I wouldn't go there if they haven't done any. Alot of shops send you to another dealer because they don't want to mess with it, and neither do the techs. Some dealers get hardly any diesel work, at Nicholas I stay busy working on mostly diesels only. I've got one LB7 injector job I'm finishing up tomorrow, and another in a holding pattern.
