I have to hit it for like forever and all of a sudden it will kick in. And then it will kick in and out just fine like nothing was wrong with the switch. Does this everytime I first try to want to use it.

Your wire is going away probably at the junction between the shifter and the steering column where it flex the most. Mine did the same thing. Very small orange wire with 2 conductors. Very delicate to repair...

When you try to engage it, if you wiggle the shifter a little it will probably engage faster. After a few weeks it wont engage at all possibly.Edited by: Maxter

This exact thing happened to me - took it in under warranty though. They changed the shift lever/wire. Works great since.

HD4fun: My waranty was over in the first year! I decided to try to repair it before changing the lever. You gotta love that heat shrink tubing...

Replacing the shift lever is quite easy. I replaced mine with a Escalate leather handle.

Couple screws splits the steering wheel column cover ,a Torx bolt holds the lever in place IIRC,remove lower dash portion and connector is in Velcro protective gather low on the steering column.

Not aware of the details to change just the switch but I'm sure it's possible.
