Chevyduty84 01-05-2007, 08:55 PM -:t -:t -:t -:t -:t would look a 100 times better if it werent for the huge square on the corner of the bumper. honestly what is that  if the gmc looks the same as the earlier pics i saw im buyin a gmc.
rock_shoes 01-05-2007, 08:57 PM I'm not sure that something that hideous will ever grow on me. Too bad cause I like my old chevy.

Jaybeecon 01-05-2007, 09:12 PM Make that giant chrome bumper in a body color and it looks much, much better. There are some photochop pics in DP showing that.
I still think the GMC looks better.

Youre right Jaybeecon. The new Chevy looks Wayyyyyyyyy better with a color matched front bumper. Other than the front bumper having soooo much Chrome, it looks somewhat decent. However, the new 07 GMC is a ton better looking than the new Chevy.
GMCJOE 01-05-2007, 09:50 PM Came across this photo of the new chevy with a photo shopped front bumper that was partially color matched. Even a quick photo shop job makes it look much better.

davefr 01-05-2007, 10:15 PM Thank God for GMC!!
The new Sierra's look 10X better then the Silverado and they look even better in 3/4T. The Silverado 3/4T's look like an abortion.
I bet Sierra outsells Silverado big time.
moldman7 01-05-2007, 11:43 PM What a monstrosity. Who the heck approved that design? That is absolutely unbelievable. GMC dealers have to be licking their chops. They are going to kick a@@!
Chevyduty84 01-06-2007, 12:24 AM yes thank god for gmc but that painted bumper looks a lot better ill agree
OpieKS 01-06-2007, 12:53 AM I don't know where this picture came from but I've seen the new Chevy (last week at San Diego Auto Show) and sat in it and it looks awesome! I remember thinking that I just couldn't wait to get my hands on one. I never buy the first generation of anything though so one of you will have to try her out and let us all know. :)
Pro Cut 01-06-2007, 01:31 AM I would/will buy either one. On the chevy though, the first thing to be done is to paint that bumper. I'm sure the designers/engineers will hear about it. I'm sure we could maybe expect a change.
RoadShark 01-06-2007, 01:54 AM It seems like the GMC had the main design focus, and the Chevy design was a quick after-thought. I think they'll fix it, maybe by '08. And it wouldn't take much:
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=31090&stc=1&d=1166996785
Then take the bar out of the grill, and it looks more like the GMC:

malibu795 01-06-2007, 02:15 AM from the fire wall back "looks" the same kinda like the 77-93 have the same cab jsut different front clip but basicly the same
inverterman 01-06-2007, 02:32 AM Huge door handles too!
schulte 01-06-2007, 02:54 AM The chrome bumpers will FAIL, IMHO. Nobody will order them if they have a choice.
If I ever end up buying anything GMT-900, I think it will be an awesome looking truck once the front and rear bumpers both are replaced by something aftermarket; ranch hand or roadarmor.
bearnc1 01-06-2007, 10:12 AM I have a 06 2500 Chevy and my old truck was a 03 2500 Chevy. I still like the 02 Chevy better. The 07 looks ok but I am not wild about it. I would buy one but going to hold on to what I got for a long time. The main reason I got the 06 was for the 4wd. I been stuck too many times.
Field Tech 01-06-2007, 10:31 AM The front end reminds me of the Family Truckster from National Lampoons Family Vacation. Chevy must have hired the designer of the Aztek away from Pontiac. Maybe chevrolet will include a free bra with every truck to hide that front end?
redneckbuckeye 01-06-2007, 10:40 AM Chevy may have to through in a ranch hand to sell trucks that is awful. Glad to have an 06.
WilliamBos 01-06-2007, 11:22 AM Hey,
I think the GMC looks way better, especially with a chrome bumper. The monochrome/painted bumper does not do anything for me, especially on the last 2 generations of truck. It will stand the test of time better, especially up here with the salty roads in the winter.
JMHO.
84jeepjohn 01-06-2007, 11:00 PM Everyone was badmouthing the 1500 (including me) UNTILL they saw them in person. The 1500 that was shown had the chrome bumper too, but when dealers started getting them they were all showing up with the painted bumpers.
I think that may e the same for the HD's (I hope LOL)
I thought the 1500 GMC looked nicer in the pics, but in person the Chevy beats it hands down (in my book). Let's let them get onto the streets firs and then let the comments fly!

:agreed: I completely agree with you 84jeepjohn. Everyone complained like crazy until they saw them in person. You are also right about the front bumpers. We saw them all in chrome in the Photos on the Chevys, but then at the dealerships they were all painted. Looked Soooooooo much better painted.
The new 07 GMC HD really does look better than the new Chevy HD in my opinion, but I think the painted front bumpers on the Chevy HDs will be a huge improvment. Many people will most likely change their views on their looks of that truck once the bumpers are painted and color matched to the Trucks.
I hope they come with painted bumpers too (the sale of the new Chevy HDs really depeneds on it).
921500Z71 01-06-2007, 11:24 PM If it was just a one piece front chrome bumper it would look better but the three piece bumper looks like garbage. However that color matched looks alot better then the chrome.

Hey,
GMC chromed, and the Chevy painted!! The GMC's do look better, but with the painted bumper on the Chev, they will do ok!!
Mad_At_M 01-07-2007, 12:11 AM Yuck!!!! I'm glad I bought an O6...........
trailbossusa 01-07-2007, 12:33 AM And GM wonders why their sales are down? Painted bumpers on a truck? What a joke. As much as I would hate it and myself, I'll buy a Furd instead.
moldman7 01-07-2007, 03:50 AM You can't paint a turd and call it beautiful. No way that Chevy can be saved. GMC sales are going to go through the roof, Chevy down the toilet. My prediction for 2007.
rwilde4 01-07-2007, 09:33 AM Seeing pics of the '07 makes me glad I own an '06. New grill and messed up bumper equals "Motor Trend Truck of the Year"????

Styling is subjective. My impressions were the exact opposite.
The Silverado looked ugly in pictures and the real thing still looks ugly to me. However the new Suburban looks great compared to the GMC.
Now the HD Silverado is about the ugliest looking truck I've ever seen in pictures. I can't imagine it'll improve any in person.
To me the Sierra looked good in pictures but great in person. (especially in dark colors). I think the 3/4T will look even better in person because it'll look a little beefier.
(the ext cab/long bed HD shown at GMC.com looks super)
aka108 01-07-2007, 02:38 PM Seen a few on the road. Both the Chev and GMC look pretty good in my view. New things take a bit to get used to. Think a lot of people will change their minds and be putting in orders before too long.
pknowles 01-07-2007, 06:47 PM Most pics on the web show chrome bumpers, most of the 900's shown on tv have painted bumpers. The chrome looks very bad, but the painted bumpers look OK.
Minn-Kota 01-07-2007, 06:58 PM Glad to have an 06.

cdent 01-07-2007, 08:51 PM I drove past a new body style '07 2500hd (gas) on a local dealer lot earlier today. Some new designs jump out and look great, for me personally this one's going to have to grow on me. I'm not complaining, but it reminds me too much of a Titan. Lots of hard edges, but they look like add ons, not really 'tough' or 'aggressive'. Again, I think it can grow on me.
dmax3500 01-07-2007, 08:52 PM could the chrome have been put on just to throw off everybody, before the trucks come out just like torque /hp figures
schulte 01-08-2007, 01:52 AM could the chrome have been put on just to throw off everybody, before the trucks come out just like torque /hp figures
Possible, but unlikely. GM probably wouldn't go so far as to design and build something like that simply for the reason of looking ugly. Chances are, the super awesome chrome corners were someone's idea, and big company politics came into play, resulting in a not-so-great idea being implemented; I see very few other reasons why GM would make something so glaringly crappy... It's not even a difference in taste or oppinion, it just looks straight up DUMB.

Nissan went forward in time, saw the new '07 Silverado's popularity in 2007 and 2008, and copied them. I SAW them do it. ;) .

Are you in Detroit? If not I think you saw a 1500. The new HD's are not "out" yet.

You nailed it. Someone beat the he!! out of that poor truck with the ugly stick. What a shame.
Minn-Kota 01-08-2007, 09:33 PM If that were my truck, I'd shave it's ass and teach it to drive backwards.
cdent 01-09-2007, 03:10 AM Hi 84 jeep, It was a no doubt about it 900 series 2500hd. The 8 lug rims caught my eye, and I was stopped long enough at a light to tell no dmax badges, but didn't have the time to jump out and look. I'm a million miles away from Detroit (Hawaii). I even asked my daughter if she'd swing past the lot and snap a pic of it, but I can't believe anything special is going on here. They should be popping up all over.
McRat 01-09-2007, 03:34 AM All new designs are ugly. That has been said every design change.
You should have heard all the "ugly" comments on the 1997 C5 Corvette. Now it's considered one of the better looking sportscars of all time.
Ditto for the Dodge Ram, who pioneered the "dropped fender" look.
The 2007 Silverado just won the Best Truck award at the big auto show.

:) well that's cool.
I have a 2002 GMC but the new Chevy has more character than the GMC does. If I buy another GM product - it will be the Chevy. I also like the looks of the new Toyota Tundra which may be a real competitor in the pickup truck market this year.
porterz 01-10-2007, 10:18 AM Toyota sounds real nice.. but I worry that they put a truck in the same class with true trucks.. toyotas are light.. why?? cause something is missing.. An actual frame.. lol
And I personally like the new GMC a little better..
SCQTT 01-10-2007, 10:31 AM Maybe they are preparing for some new bumper law (lower/larger) that has taken, or will take, effect soon.
Maybe the chrome is caused by them (the designers) looking at this site and seeing all the stupid chrome bling a ton of people add to their trucks. I'm surprised the thing doesn't come standard with chrome door handles.
At least (I think) you can get a painted grill and bumpers instead of chrome this year. And by painted I mean black or grey, like a Dodge or Ford's optional fleet looking bumpers. That is what I like. Color matched looks good on a car or sports truck like the SS, it looks like a55 on a truck that is supposed to be a tool.
McRat 01-10-2007, 01:06 PM What you will find is that when the Japanese move into the "heavy" pickup market, the magic will dissipate like it has with the Titan.
For years people compared the Japanese 125hp, 2500lb pickups to the 250HP, 5000lb pickups, and screamed that the American trucks were thirsty and required more maintenance.
Certainly the Japanese are not shy about entering foreign markets, so why do you suppose they have only started increasing their pickup sizes recently? Do you really think they were afraid? That they did not consider it? Nope. They did their engineering studies and found they could not compete effectively with the existing products on the market.
The "magic" will disappear, and unless they do their marketing perfectly, people will find the Emperor has no clothes, and this will affect their other vehicle sales as well. Japanese minivans and SUV's of comparable power and size to American products are not selling as well, nor recording better reliability numbers.
tbrowne 01-10-2007, 02:08 PM We said the same thing thirty years ago about Japanese cars. Now Toyota has surpassed Ford as the worlds second largest auto company and they are poised to displace GM as the Worlds largest this year. I wouldn't bet against the new Tundras at this point!
McRat 01-10-2007, 02:35 PM Problem is Toyota doesn't sell anything I'd consider owning!
Yes, folk who would rather take a bus, will buy a Camry. There is nothing exciting about a Toyota since they killed the Supra.
Yes, McDonalds sell better than roadhouse Barbeque stands do, but I like mine spicy. ;)
cdent 01-10-2007, 02:49 PM I think Toyota makes some excellent products and must have the right business sense. It's tough to figure out nowadays, but I try to buy and support the good old USA. Not a political statement, just personal preference, and I'm sure the competition helps raise the bar.

Very Well Said McRat!!!
:agreed:
porterz 01-10-2007, 03:19 PM I think they should put the HUGE hike on imports here.. like all other companies do to us.. that would A) Make them much more expensive, and B) enable us to sell TONS more both here and abroad.
Why do you suppose Toyota built a plant in the US? They don't have to pay imports on it then.. Thats one of the things that drives me nuts.. that and the Nafta crap..
But seriously just like I was referring to, and McRat.. they always talk about how toyotas go anywhere.. don't get stuck as easy.. imagine what our trucks would do if they had 1/3 the weight, half the power.. and wider tires.. we wouldn't ever get stuck either. Sorry to knock toyota.. good enough product.. but as of now there are a few camry killers out there.. Saturn built one, and so did Ford.. I think the fusion.. if priced right will beat the camry out.. it might be a slow battle... but I would rather we went back to doing everything ourselves in this country.. and we'd all be better off..
(sorry... got started still unsure where to stop.. ;) ) I'll be running for president in 2015.. :D j/k

5818michael 01-11-2007, 04:24 PM WOW, I was at the stealership today and got a look at the new styling on the trucks. I'll keep both my 04 2500HD D/A and my 06 3500 Dooley D/A.
Come on GM you guys can do better than this. Inside looks great, outside looks like a Tundra. The 1/2 tons have 17 inch wheels and sport tires. Does that make any sense on a z71 4x4?
tettruck 01-11-2007, 11:37 PM Every time I see one of the new '07's (1/2 ton) I take a second look because I think it's a Titan. They look downsized somehow. Must be the new curves. The 1/2 ton front ends look good, but that bumper on the '07 HD is . I saw a friends new Suburban the other day. The interior is nice, I guess, but looks a bit too posh in styling. Hard to take it seriously as a work truck. Guess it would be nice in my "weekend truck" (1/2 ton)....if I had one.
Roaring D Max 01-11-2007, 11:48 PM Good thing I purchase my 07, Silverado, 2500HD crew cab last month... I would not buy this Silverado model design based on these pics....

howard_m18 01-13-2007, 12:29 AM The "900" trucks are coming off the lines,BUT I believe only in Pontiac East. Flint won't, be building the "900" trucks til after the shut-down. 2/5/07 is the last week of build out for the 2007 "Classic" & then they shut down till 2/26 when they start up the new "900" trucks. Flint is still building "Classics" with a few of the "900" built as pilots! Howard

WilliamBos 01-13-2007, 03:59 PM Hey,
I saw a new Chev 1500 crew today, it looked pretty nice. The corners of the bumper were painted to match the truck, but the center was chrome. Looked nice. Still like the GMC look way better though.
howard_m18 01-14-2007, 12:44 AM The 1500 are coming off the lines as "900's" except at Flint. Pontiac East,Mi. builds the: 1500 "regular cab & extended cabs. It also builds the "regular & extended cab "2500hd's." Fort Wayne, Indiana builds the 1500 regular & extended cabs with "sport side boxes. NO HD's are built there.
