: Different temps. with Suncoast install
Got a question regarding a Suncoast Stage IV install. I just had a Stage IV kit installed and now my trans. temps. are running 50-75 degrees higher than before the install. Is this normal until the new parts get a few miles on them? I also noticed my EGT's are running about 100 degress hotter than before. I've only got 30 or so miles on the new trans. but with the temp. change, I was concerned something might be binding and didn't want to continue driving it. Thanks for any help!
ripmf666 01-05-2007, 08:12 PM Hey avis not sure if this will help but I only have the 1057 and the transgo jr with a mag tech pan before I run under the 150 now before it would get towards the 200 when i was hard on it
dmaxalliTech 01-05-2007, 08:17 PM Until it gets broke in a bit, I wouldnt worry to much. 30 miles is to early to tell anything unless it was a steady highway cruise. Likely your beating on it a bit since its fresh and your seeing what it does and that will build heat as well.
Let it settle in a few days and put some miles on it. Keep an eye on your temps and dont abuse it if it gets real hot. Let it cool down by doing some steady highway driving if it gets hot.
Thanks guys! I'll keep you in the loop on this Eric. Didn't get on it too much because it's raining, but tomorrow they say it's going to be nice. Then I can really test her out.

Might be a time for a MikeL cooler?
Mike L. 01-05-2007, 10:07 PM Drain some fluid out of it. bet it's overfull.

That was my exact problem after my install.

Mike, I was shillin for you :) . Got to admire a man that looks out more for his customer's best interests than his own bottom line!
Seriously, when I installed my SC IV, my temp increased. Installing a Mike L. cooler lowered it to where it was lower than what it ran stock.
I checked the fluid level earlier and it was half way between the hot and cold marks. The engine temp. was about 150 and the trans. temp was about 125. Does this sound like the right level for these temps?
dmaxalliTech 01-05-2007, 11:01 PM at full operating temp, right at the bottom of the hot range is plenty
Wolford 01-05-2007, 11:51 PM The temps you see are consistant with mine.
I'll get it nice and hot tomorrow and check it again. Thanks!
RyanZ06 01-06-2007, 12:43 AM My trans ran ~225 for the first 50 miles or so of travel. I changed the fluid the next day. I proceded to run it another 500 miles around ~185-190.. changed fluid again, it now runs a consistant 150-175, never hotter, even while towing or hot rodding.
Update- I ran around for about a hour doing city driving and the temps were in the 160-170 range. I know this isn't alot, but I can't figure out why I'm now running higher temps with the Stage IV install. Also for some reason the EGT's are running about 100 degrees higher than normal. Before the install under normal driving when I stopped it took maybe 30 seconds for the EGT's to fall under 300,now it's about 2 minutes. Do I need to be concerned? Also what is a safe EGT temp to shut down at? I was doing it under 300, but now with the extended time it takes to get to 300, is there a safer higher temp? Thanks for any advice!
One other thing, I did check the fluid level when it was hot, and it was about a third of the way into the hot markings on the stick.
jmg343 01-06-2007, 05:15 PM I think your fine. I see similar readings on mine and have since I had it installed. Outside temps seem to effect my tranny temps a fair amount too. For example, on my way to VT in 28-33 degree weather, driving at 70-80mph I was running a tranny temp of about 140-150. Today, doing the same drive, though half the distance, it was 68* outside. I was driving the exact same route in the exact same manner and I was seeing 160-170. I say youve got nothing to worry about until you get over 200-210.
As far as EGTs go, 300-350 is plenty safe to shut down at. Heres something to chew on, though maybe tough to follow. I have 2 Afe air filters, on one, the small end of the cone is flat and rubber. On the other, the small end of the cone is convex and doesnt have the rubber end, it is filter material in the convex section. With the latter of the two filters my EGTs run about 100* hotter than the other filter. It also takes a bit longer to come down to 325* which is where I shut down at.
I would think that the filter with the convex/filter material end would take in more air, thus running cooler and cooling down quicker. But, results support the contrary. I have no explanation.
Dont know if any of this helps, but I hope you can derive something from it.
Yes, it did help. Thanks!
jmg343 01-06-2007, 05:26 PM my pleasure.
