You guys change filters frequently cutting them open to get an idea on fuel quality.

You said all filters are manufactured by Racor (sp?). My local car parts place is charging about $30 for the filter.

Is this a good price?

Go on eBay. There are a lot of folks selling filters. The last ones I bought were $16 for fuel and $8 for transmission (I think) plus about $8 for shipping for the whole mess. I didn't even buy through eBay. I just found a guy that had a package deal, wrote to him and told him what I wanted. He sent me the price and I ordered them

I have always bought my fuel filters from this website:

http://www.lubespecialist.com/

The price and service are good. ($18 for fuel filter). Lubespecialist is also a supporting vendor for this forum.

My neighbor works for the city. He has an '04 D/A and I have an '03 D/A.

He can get a case of Wix fuel filters (24?) for $14 and change each.

This sounds like a good deal to me especially if they are all made by the same manufacturer.

I figured we'd split the cost of a case and be set for quiet some time.

Word of advice:

Whenever buying the RACOR OE filters (what ever the brand label) be sure to check inside the WIF sensor opening on the bottom of the filter for corrosion. I bought a six-pack of filters and found corrosion in several of them. The vendor took them back and sent me replacements and some of the replacements also had corrosion (which they also replaced). The best way to check is with a dental mirror. I now spray a little WD-40 on all my filters and store them in plastic bags.

Also, FWIW I changed and cut open all three of my fuel filters yesterday (Stanadyne FM100, OEM & JK MegaFilter) and found the inside case on each to be completely free of rust, water or residue - all were shiny & clean. There was just a tiny bit of sediment in the clear bowl of FM100 pre-filter. (running Stanadyne Perf formula and a dash of TCW3 2-cycle oil).
