I hope I don't get in trouble for this (wrong forum) but I'm wondering if anyone had any insight on my transmission problem.

I'm not sure which model of the ZF6 I have in my F350, but I do need to R&R it.. I'm taking it to a shop next week or the week after for a OD problem.. It pops out of OD when going down the road, or when going downhill.. It will happen if you let off the throttle and then get on it again too.. It isn't the pilot bearing, I just spent $900 on a South Bend Clutch..

I have a new shift fork I bought for 5th & OD.. I'm planning to have a bearing kit put in and whatever else is needed to get it running strong again.
I've heard it could be a shift fork, blocking ring, or synchronizer so far.. The shop I'm taking it too said they had another ZF6 they worked on that had the same problem.. Supposedly the owner of the truck used the wrong fluid and things got burned up.. I put Mobil1 synthetic Mercon 5 rated ATF in it with Ford's approval last summer.. I don't think that caused my problem.

I talked to a ZF technician from OK Monday and he says with continued use of OD and letting it pop out I'll eventually not be able to keep it in OD.. And every time I HOLD it in OD to prevent it from popping out I'm wearing on the shift fork. I'm guessing I'll need to have the OD gear replaced which I'm told is only ~$40.. I might have 3rd replaced as well since I have ground on it a few times..

I guess I'll have the tranny shop order the parts and what I don't need can be sent back..

I'd still like to hear your input.

Thanks!

Not sure on the ZF problem, but other tranny's I've owned/worked on that have the "pop out of gear" problem was worn synchros.

The tech is also right holding it in gear with wear other stuff too. Mine has popped out two or three times but nothing repeatable.

I assume Fords are syncroed in all gears. I wish they would have left them out of Rev and 1st.
