EGR Valve-Maintenance or Cleaning

Should an EGR valve be cleaned as a routine? If so, at about how many miles and by what method?

"If it ain't broke do not fix it". EGR valves are pretty maintaince free. If it is fouled, you have more serious problems because engine is not running correctly and fouling it, not becuase it has some use on it.
