: Injector Repair pictures
Turfmower 08-05-2004, 07:11 PM Is there a post that shows how they are replaced? All I hare is how it cost so much money to do them, when they out of warranty. I have rebuilt gas engine and don work on my Kubota. It just give you an excuse to buy more tools. And we all know who dies with the most tools wins.
dmaxalliTech 08-05-2004, 10:32 PM look in Hoot's sig, he took a bazillion pics when I did his head gaskets, you'll find pics in there.
And the dies with the most tools thing..I think I am winning, my wife says she will kill me if I keep buying toolshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Bronco 08-06-2004, 01:27 AM All I here is how it cost so much money to do them, when they out of warranty.
Turfmower,
Originally the number was approx. 5000 smackers for all 8 to be replaced. Now that the injector price has dropped and the labor has been cut from 15 to 10 hours, I think it is just under 3K to have all 8 replaced. The good news is that the new ones will be covered for 200k miles.
An indepth video or DIY guide would be very helpful. I would pay many dollars just to have a book or DVD. It would contain all parts and part numbers. It would contain leads on where to get the best injector/part pricing.
It would contain all tools and tool numbers/sources.( specialty tools)
It would also be nice if it contained additional parts and part numbers that Dmaxallitech has reccomended. ( fuel lines due to corrosion ect. ect.)
Pictures with step by step instructions. Basically a
"DURAMAX INJECTORS FOR DUMMIES "type of guide.Edited by: Bronco
socaldieseltech 08-06-2004, 01:41 AM I think the only special tool besides a Tech2, is the injector removal tool. Sometimes when the injector is stuck in the sleeve, that can add a little extra to the job.
dmaxalliTech 08-06-2004, 08:18 AM Pat, after 10 or so years, I finally got rid of tool payments.. 70k ish later.. I am clearhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Of course, that dont include the hoist and the scanner and the shop equipment at homehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Turfmower 08-06-2004, 05:50 PM You have to remember you need other tools too not just automotive. I get to add all my landscaping, masonry, wood working tools, dump trucks, trailers, tractors and power equipment too.
srode 08-06-2004, 06:33 PM Now that the injector price has dropped and the labor has been cut from 15 to 10 hours, I think it is just under 3K to have all 8 replaced.
Well if the price of replacement is ONLY $3000, that's almost getting affordable. Not that I would want to foot the bill, but sounds alot better than $5000 I had figured before. Is that labor and parts? Guess the parts got a lot cheaper. Edited by: srode
Bronco 08-06-2004, 07:47 PM Yeah I think the injectors were originally close to 500 and now they are 250+ ish? I also think they dropped the labor rate from 15 hours to 10. So that is what knocked the price down.
Still expensive but if it does come with a 200k mile warranty that makes the after 100K part not so bad. ( assuming you do not shell the motor)
I will look for the earlier thread that covered this. I think Dmaxallitech was providing some of the info. Maybe even a GM bulliten issued IIRC?
hdmax 08-07-2004, 12:20 AM Bronco; I think you maybe a little low. Maybe Eric will give us a clue.
Not to long ago, the number around here was in the neighborhood of $8,000. I know the price has come down a bunch. But I thought it was still in the $4,500-$5,000 range.
If mine ever need replaced outside of warranty, Eric will be summoned to change them out with some good after market high performance one`s.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil%20Smile.gifMe too. Hopefully I could offer a 3 nights in vegas package. Free room and board for labor, just has to go out the garage to leave the house... Hopefully I never get problems with the general doing warranty work for me. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

So that is what knocked the price down. I remember the price drop on injectors, but thought the time drop from 15 to 10 hours was from the LB7 to the LLY? Even if that's the case, the injector price drop is worth $2000 savings for complete replacment which is great. Edited by: srode
dmaxalliTech 08-07-2004, 08:18 AM the price of the injectors did drop, 3k will get em installed, on the old part no injectors an average replacement job was around 4500. The labor time only dropped on warranty replacements... if its outa pocket, it didnt change any... still worth everybit of 15 hours.
Bronco 08-07-2004, 12:49 PM Here is a link that will give you some info on DIY. I will find the link from Hoot and Eric as well.
Brandon thanks for the effort.

Where are you finding the warrantee for the new injectors? My understanding is that GM is warranting the injectors for 7 years/200,000 miles from date of vehicle purchase/total miles. If I have the injectors replaced at 199K then I would only have 1K left on the warrantee. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifEdited by: rdenman3

When you are outside of warranty and have GM do repair work on you vehicle with GM parts and GM technicians, ther is a warranty on the work they do. I had always thought it was 200k? Maybe a Tech could clarify?
Anyways here is another link with some injector DIY.

Bronco 08-07-2004, 05:58 PM Here is another link to a head gasket repair done by the ever famous Dmaxallitech( Eric) on Hoots truck. Is has alot of pictures relevant to an injector repair. Notice on page two the corrosion of the injector fuel fitting seats. Pretty ugly.

dmaxalliTech 08-08-2004, 08:03 PM To those of you who had to pay to have your injectors replaced and are NOT able to get reimbursment because you were out of the 200k range when they were replaced..... You now have a LIFETIME warranty on them if done at a SERVICE PLUS dealer.. I have a customer that had to pay to have his replaced at around the 220k mark last Sep.. now he has 340k on the truck and its getting smokey again..... wont cost him a dime this time aroundhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif. It did cost him just a few ticks over 4k last time thoughhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
Grey Ghost 08-11-2004, 02:09 AM Eric,
Forgive my ignorance but.......What is a "SERVICE PLUS" dealer?
Thanks,
Gary
dmaxalliTech 08-11-2004, 08:04 AM Its a dealer that meets GM criterea for certain things, most of the larger dealers were "plus" dealers. I dont think they use that program anymore though from what I understand. Now they are on the "MR Goodwrench" kick.
