: Engine cutting out momentarily

On a trip to SC a few days ago I had two instances where the motor shut down for a few seconds at highway speeds(it was raining) and then magically resumed its regular beat with no action taken by me... No lack of power when running, Filters CAT and OEM changed approx 6k ago.

Noticed a hard crank with no start on the first start after sitting overnight after above mentioned trip. Turned key to off, recranked, and it started immediately.
Today cut out once more for a few seconds(this time dry conditions) at about 50mph and resumed its normal behavior. Upon arriving home I stopped to pick up mail at roadside and as I stopped the engine died. Had a hard crank, no start, turned off key, recranked...it started immediately.

My first thought is AIR... but why would the engine falter(cut out) at speed and then resume right where it left off?

Coming up on 36k shortly.. All comments and suggestions
greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Richard

If you have a programmer or chip remove it and see if it is causing the problem. From your sigs you list no devices but the Edge has been known to do what you have mentioned, especially in the rain with the Egde. You could be experiencing injector failure too. Edited by: BassinRVer

Tacowagon when the engine cut out, guages and everything else appeared as they do when first enegizing the key at startup....with the exception that key was in run position....the engine popped right back...full power ran normally.

BassinRver could you clarify injectors going bad? My impression was that there were other issues fuel in oil etc were the warning signs.

Checked OEM filter this a.m and it was full.. truck started immediately. Going thru my normal work activities today and will check to see if it happens again.
If so off to the dealer for documetation purposes and fix? Intermittent problems are subject to the old " could not duplicate" refrain.
Thanks Richard

As you mentioned "Noticed a hard crank with no start on the first start after sitting overnight after above mentioned trip", which is a systom of bad injectors. By the way diesel does not have to be in the oil when an injector goes bad. You could have high return volumes and this is where the fuel is going and not in the engine but back into the gas tank via the return lines. Anyone please correct me if I have this wrong.
