Thanks from all of us who either:

A- aren't lazy, shiftless SOB's.

B- are too cheap to shell out $2000.00+ for the Allison.

C- like the control and involvement of driving trucks with manual transmissions.

Hi Guys, I am not a Duramax owner yet, but I am all of below with 1 extra,

B- are too cheap to shell out $2000.00+ for the Allison.

C- like the control and involvement of driving trucks with manual transmissions.

D. Would take an Allison but I can buy alot of other things, or save the $2,000+ and put it on the truck amd with the extra gear I would possibly get a little btter milage, depending on how I drove it!!

Have any of the ZF-6 owners nticed the power difference between the Allison and the Stick?

And how many hi-milage ZF's are out there now?

Thanks

Will

Will;

the ZF6 is stout. It is the cluch and expecially the flywheel that is weak. If you are lucky and drive very slowly, don't tow up mountains you will likely have no problem with the DMF or clutch. I think (so I have read) that once a good clutch/flywheel are installed the drive train is very stout. The Alli is very good but can have problems as well. especially if racing or using power chips, etc.

I am a shifty character myself.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

At a certain hill in Montana I noticed that my truck could pull a 10,600# trailer a mile up hill from a standing start about 4 seconds faster, with a top speed 3-4 MPH faster, than the two stock D-max?Allisons that tried it that day. I haven't had it on a Dyno. I believe the top speed difference is mostly due to the 6 speed making 58 MPH in 4th (1.31:1) while the Allison would make 54 MPH at the same RPM in 3rd (1.41:1). Neither of us could quite hold speed in direct drive. (I ran twice, faded from 56 to 55 after shifting to 5th on the first try, just ran up the hill at governed speed in 4th for the second (record) run.
