I've been experiencing a strange ,intermittent electrical problem and thought I would throw it out here to see if anyone had any ideas. Here are the problems in the order they have appeared.
Cruise control kicked off twice. Not a blown fuse. It seems to be working right now.
Lights will flash on/off quickly and truck will not start with remote starter. It only happens once in a while. Sometimes I have to hit it twice to start and other times it will never start remotely. Lights are suppose to come on solid when the signal is sent and when the problem occurs they flash on and off quickly.
Third brake light glows like park lights. I thought it was normally on only with brakes.
Noticed indicator light on brake controller flickering the other evening. Usually it is on solid or N/C is displayed.
I have the Bully step with LED bar that I noticed was not fully illuminated all the time and is flickering once in a while. I wonder if this is shorting my electrical system simulating a brake on situation?Remote start installer says a bad connection in the harness going up the steering wheel column is the problem. I've been thought the entire harness and cannot see anything wrong or any bad plug in harness connection. I'm thinking a possible faulty brake light switch or a short circuit in the wiring harness, possibly trailer lights simulating a braking condition.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I would be questioning the installer of your alarm/remote start, they are the only ones that would tap into your wiring. It is extremely rare for this to happen to a truck that hasn't been modified, like 1 in a million. Talk to installers manager, if it didn't happen before your install it's most likely because of what they did. Just my .02

possible to have a bad ground somewhere cause a backfeed problem to make the brake lights stay on...i have 1 very similar( did not have remote start/alarm) a couple of weeks ago and found a bad ground connecton at G200 under the ip upper dashpad on the right side. if you take take the trim molding on the right side by the windsheild off you cane see the groung post/sud looking thru the glass down.

Your trailer harness is grounding out on the brake controller or the brake plug outlet
It causes the conpletion of the brake light circuit which then turns on the light and causes your cruise control to kick off. You will need to isolate the ground off of the trailer plug and then get busy with a test light.
It is a B*tch to find, try unplugging and cleaning all connections first with elect cont cleaner and then reassembling with dieelectric grease.
If that does not work, Isolate the ground, and start from back plug to front with a test light.
Good luck. I replaced my trailer harness and it cured the problem. Those of us in the salt belt have it real nice....

I agree...your brake controller is telling you that it is sensing connection. Since its kicking off your cruise and lighting your centre Brake light (where the Brake controller gets it's command from), I am guessing it is shorting TRAILER BRAKE (+) to BRAKE LIGHTS.
Start with the bumper trailer plug. Check for corrosion on the 6 blades, if clean there, take apart the back of the plug and check for corrosion. Work your way back thru all the connections till you find it.
Its a good idea to re-connect anything you take apart with a little dab of di-electric grease to prevent any corrosion later.
Since my very first pickup did this right at the trailer plug, I fill the actual plug in with di-electric grease and do the back end of the plug right away. Yes my trailer plug get a bit messy, but well worth the prevention.
Let us know what you find

Excellent advice guys, I'm going to get her in a heated shop on Friday and start checking from the trailer plug forward. I have connected a LED light bar so there may be an issue at that point. I've been through some deep snow and wet slushy crap so that may have penetrated the wiring harness and be causing a partial short.
Thanks a lot for the assistance and I'll keep you guys posted.

After several hours of troubleshooting I was finally able to identify the issue with my electrical system. :banghead: :confuzeld  Attached is a fairly long writeup detailing the symptoms I was experiencing and the steps I took to identify and resolve. In hindsight I would have gone directly to the aftermarket items first and then tackled the factory electrical system.:o: I'm sure the experienced mechanics here are nodding in agreement now...yes dumb a$$ you should have. :idiot:
In short the problem was traced to the aftermarket LED light bar that I installed this summer. If you have read my previous posts I was experiencing feedback into my brake signal system causing a multitude of problems with my cruise control, remote starter, Outlook monitor, third brake light (TBL) glowing dim with running lights and issues with a few other operating systems. My LED light bar is direct wired so it was not as simple as just unplugging it to test.
I used a 12VDC test light and started checking for voltage at the rear trailer plug. When I touched the left signal light the TBL went out. I cut the left signal wire and found about 3VDC leakage when the park lights are turned on with my volt meter to gnd. To resolve I soldered IN4001 diodes in series with the LED bar supply wires and heat shrinked the connections. Problem resolved.
This was "not" suppose to be a cheap aftermarket light bar and the price tag reflected that. It is possible this one is faulty but I will contact the manufacturer to confirm. I know my taillights have circuitry added to make them compatible with my truck so why did they not do this with these LED's?
Still a nice feeling of relief to finally find this issue ):h :drinking:
