With twice the diaphragm area and spring pressure of the stock wastegate, Banks BigHead keeps the valve seated longer. BigHead produces massive torque right from idle, achieves a higher peak boost, sooner, and maintains more boost throughout the powerband by eliminating premature wastegate blow-open. I think that just about says it....

Make sure you add at least a boost guage and if you can a pyrometer if you're gonna do that upgrade. I have the Big Head on mine, but I got it with the Stinger Kit. Hardly ever downshifts out of 5th when towing, but I haven't had it in the Rockies yet....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

I have stock wastegate so I can't say if the Banks is worth the $, but I can blow the tires away on low in without it.

However, having the boost come in quicker on my Turbo Buick was always a good thing on the street. (If one raced on the street http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Whether the Banks will do that for our trucks is the question.

I would need to see a time slip improvement personally. Edited by: gmccall

If at WOT you throw alot of black smoke, then a wastegate actuator is a good investment. Just make sure you have a boost guage that can read high enough, because there is more adjustability than you will want to use.

If you get one, read this post I wrote concerning the final boost output. Your mileage may vary, but this is a close estimate.

It is a pin to have to climb back onto the engine to redo it. But make sure you have a good boost gauge that goes to at least 40!

hey guys anyone know what the boost is with the factory waste gate? my banks says to turn in 7 turns from factory and my boost only went to 14 or 16. i dont remember how many more turns i went in but 4 seems to pop into my head, any way my boost went up to 20 so i turned it in 2 more turns today and with truck empty it hit 24 - 25 in 3 or 4 gear. i will be towing our fifthwheel the 21st and will know what it goes upto under a load.
