Dmax Tim 08-05-2004, 05:53 AM Go to Mike's website http://www.duramaxracing.com/ , it doesn't hurt him running 285 on stock rims http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
I don't know if I would be too comfortable hauling much of a load with 285's. If seen 'em mounted and you are asking alot of the bead and the side wall of a 285 tire IMHO. 265's would be my outer limit for the 6.5" rim - some tire shops around here won't even mount anything over the 245 on a 6.5" rim - liability.
FASTOYS 08-05-2004, 10:47 AM I have 265s and like them ! Just dont get the Dunlops ATs as they have to much tread squirm. The bigger you go the more it hurts Performance and Mileage !
RyanG 08-05-2004, 08:32 PM I have 285s on the stock wheels. I bought the truck used and it came with a set of worn 265 bfg a/t's. Time will tell, but no problems yet. PSI is adjusted accordingly to tire wear, tires are rotated frequently. Didn't really notice a power loss, but it was compared to 265s. Fuel economy...well, the distance traveled is off so it "looks" like mileage is a little bit lower, but calculations prove that the economy is about the same.
Our other truck (1995 chevy silverado with same wheels) has the same tires as the dmax but in 265/75. Tires wear evenly and it handles the load well (+/- 4500 lbs is put in the bed all of the time and the tires handle it fine).

O2BFAST 08-24-2004, 03:36 PM I put 265's on mine this week...the dealer I deal with told me my '03 had a slightly smaller wheel opening than the 01-02 and would require some cutting and cranking...I dont know if he just wanted to unload the 265's and was telling me a story or not....but cutting and cranking was not and option.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
SUMMITMAXLLY 08-24-2004, 11:50 PM I have the 265 REVOs but the local Firestone store would not put them on as the minimum rim width needed was 7 inches. Stock is 6.5 inches. Had to go to an independent dealer and have them install. Clearance is okay. Still at stock ride height. Did not want to go to 285 because of tire clearance issues AND the Factory Warranty; did not want Chevy to use the bigger (285) tires as an excuse not to cover warranty work if problem is related to the tires.
coolbeans 08-25-2004, 10:35 AM The tire dealer I went to said the 265 Revo's would be fine on stock rims and I'd have no trouble towing my new 27' camper. The revos lifted my truck some, and the ride is much better.

goody 08-25-2004, 07:00 PM I put 265's BFG A/Tko. I was going to put on the Revo's but my dealer talked me out of them. He said and showed me a set that had 20,000 miles and were shot. He claimed that with the weight and extra torque of the diesel the revo's weren't holding up as well. I have since heard that from a couple other tire stores too. Love the BFG's so far.

craSSh 08-25-2004, 08:07 PM I had 265 BFG ATs on my Z71 and loved them, but when they got caked up I had to spin them to clean them. Now I have 285 Revo's on my HD. The Revo's seem to do a better job of cleaning themselves without having to spin them, they don't seem to get caked up like the BFG ATs. Both are excellent tires.
BigWill_21 08-25-2004, 08:14 PM Well you can't really ask A/T's to clean mud...
If that wasn't the case i'd have A/t's on my Red truck and not 39.5" Boggers!!!!!
I can say that Having owned both my, BFG M/ts have alwasy held up longer than the A/t's did on, an dI have had 2 sets of both...

Dawgj77 08-25-2004, 09:20 PM What tires would be best to go with a heavy foot? I do alot of winter driving on and off road so i need somtin that holds up on both, but i also i like to use my Juice to some of its potential on the street http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif.......id like to have a mean lookin 285, but i dont want to retire every other oil changehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif iv seen revos and like them, but i love the way goodyear MT/Rs look.....Im not big on BFG tires b.c i think they are over priced b.c of the name printed on them, but other than that im open to any good tire that will holds up and looks good
THanks for the input
Jared
Big John 08-26-2004, 01:20 AM The std Dueller is a match for the BFG AT's and they wear better than the revo's-BJ
ZFMax 08-26-2004, 10:32 AM I put on a set of Dunlop 285's on 8" wheels when the truck was nearly new ... they wore out quickly, like 20K miles, were somewhat noisy, and didn't handle well, made the truck wander more. When they wore out, I went to BFG Commercial T/A's in the 265 size (10 ply), back on the stock PY0's. Much better handling, quieter, better fuel mileage, and lasted about 35K. Now replacing them with Michelin LTX's 10 ply. No more 285's for me, the downsides outweigh the looks improvement IMO.
2k4hd 08-28-2004, 07:40 PM I am a newbie to thes forum and to diesels. Got my 2004 GMC SLT 2500HD LLY Duramax
yesterday. I had a 2002 GMC 8100gasser and put 285 BFGoodrich AllTerrain TA KO's from the start. Traided it in for the Dmax, so I put the same thing in my new diesel.
It looks exactily like BigWill'shttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Minn-Kota 08-28-2004, 11:30 PM I had 285 BF AT/TO's on my '02 and they fit, but not exactly the best on these 6.5" rims. Looked good though. Can't air them way up or the centers will be the only thing on the road.
Went with 265's on my '03 and they fit and wear a lot better, but still wonder if I shouldn't have went 285's. 255's would be my choice, but they don't offer many tires in that size other than mud terrains and don't really want to go that aggressive. Now, if they had 255/85 BF AT's I'd have a set tomorrow. Nothing wrong with the REVO's, but the BF's http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Rock On.gif in snow.
DRCook 08-29-2004, 11:43 PM I am running Goodyear LT265/75R16 ATS load range E on stock rims on both the 2004.5 2500HD and the 1991 K2500 8600 gvwr reg cab 4x4 we have. I am having excellent results on both trucks and they have done well for me (on the old truck) hauling hay, sawdust for the horsebedding, up and down the highway in all kinds of whether, including the kind of nasty snow/slush we get here in Ohio, I would never run any other tire other than maybe a straight up summertime road tire on 2500HD
