Hello all. I recently installed a rear diff temp guage. I've never seen over 150 Deg.F on it, but I haven't towed with it either. does anyone know the acceptable range. gauage is autometer 0-250. thanks

85w-140 is good up to 250 degrees or so and still lubricate well with peaks of up to 300. I have never heard of a diff burning out that was properly serviced with the correct oil though so it is of questionable value.

Where in the diff. is the gauge installed? I would like to put one on mine but there are only two places for it: in the fill hole plug or drain hole plug. That means drilling out one of those and welding in a probe. Since the drain plug has a magnet in it probably not a good idea to mess with that.

Order a replacement cover for added fluid capacity.

Mag-Hytec has a provision for a probe and PML Pans might as well............contact MIKE L. here for PML pans.

Mine came from autometer with a fitting that replaces the fill plug and the probe screws into that fitting. they are brass. I got the diff. gauage because I liked the look of a 3 pod pillar vs. a 2 pod. and since I already had a trans. temp. I too have never had a problem with the rear diff. I was just curious if there was a high temp danger zone. thanks for your replies.

I just installed mine in my Mag Hytec cover. It never reads above like 125 though. I also run synthetic Amsoil. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
