Yesterday I finally installed my Edge w/ Attitude. Today I was dinking around and I knew that you're not supposed to be running them on 4 or 5 hard but had to try it. When I had it on level 5 wow did it have power....until I hit the 4-5 shift and she locked into 4 then it was all over.

Question and answer time: What do I need to make this tranny hold up to the Edge? I want to be able to run it on level 5 whenever I want. Outside of the Edge, the only upgrades I ever plan on doing to this pickup is an aftermarket 4 or 5 inch exhaust. I would like to keep the price near $2000 but less would be better. I do have a fair amount mechanical ability. Not something I'll do immediately, but I just want to know what I need to be saving for.

Transgo would likely be enough but you have to pull the tranny to install it which is why most people do clutch upgrades and TC upgrades while they are there anyway.

Are you sure the transgo would be enough? I'd like to do this once and only once.

First of all i am not a transmission expert by any means. Mike L, duramaxallitech and other wear that hat :)

However from my experience and from what I read on here yes a transgo would be enough to hold your juice/attitude. You will also need to inspect and replace the burnt clutches as required.

With that being said, very few of us stop with only the juice/attitude. So if you feel you might be adding more in the future you are definitely better to overbuild it. In that case you will want to look at kits including a torque converter from such companies as ATS, suncoast and TTS etc.

Good luck, you have some tough and expensive decisions ahead. One thing you will soon find out is that it is probably the most fun modification you can do to your truck. You don't know what you were missing until you put it all to the ground.

It will not be enough. Go with a Suncoast 3 or 4 if you want to do it once. If you go half way you are still limited with what you can do.

Exactly...better to overdo it once...than do it half assed twice

I am with Mike L. I did it the first time half way and finally went with a Mike L. SC IV and have never looked back.
Do it right the first time!!!!!!

You can run a Transgo and a good triple plate converter and it will be enough for what you have stated. We ran that combination for over a year at 500 + RwHp and your Edge should only be about 430 RwHp. Others have run more power than that with just the Transgo and converter with good results as well. If you can afford more you can do more but if you stick to what you've said you will be fine.
