I am going to get into the pulling seen this year I think so I am going to go with a suncoast 3 or 4. My Allison has 55,000 miles on it and works absolutely perfect and has never been limped. I have had an edge programmer for the last 6 months(ran on level 2 mostly, for mileage, 3 once in a great while) but have been nice to the tranny and have never pulled or raced before. What is a perfect working Allison worth?

if you are installing a Suncoast III or IV you dont need to sell your transmission, you simply install the Suncoast parts into your current allison.

People on this site have bought a full trasnsmisisons before though right? From what I can tell on their site you can only buy a stage 5 complete trans. I go under the alto/red eagle icon and it tells me about the stage 3and 4 upgrade kits but nothig about a stage 5. Is there a better site from on of our vendors that will have more info that I can learn about these? Thanks, Bret

Bret,

The level 5 is a complete tranny shipped to you, you will need to send your old one back to recover the core charge.

Level 3 and 4 are kits you purchase. Either you or your local installer rebuilds your original tranny with these kits.

Thanks SS396, that will help me make up my mind once I decide how far I want to go. Thanks again, Bret

If you've rebuilt a transmission before the Allison is a pretty easy unit to go through. The biggest trouble is its pretty heavy so have some good jacks to work with is a big help. There are plenty of member that have done them on there own at home in the garage. No real special tools required but a couple do make it easier.

just get some big snap ring pliars and its a piece of cake :D

and get some old small screwdrivers that you dont mind bending and grinding into custom shapes...the c1/c2 drum is kinda a PITA the first time, I made some little right angle special shaped screwdrivers that helped a lot.

and of course the most valuable tool of all, the 9 digits that makes up mike's cellphone number ):h
