thought id get a little feedback. i have the chance to buy a 95 ec dually with a 6.5 and auto. the motor doesnt run thats all i know the intake is lying in the bed, if i can revive it id like to keep the diesel, if not ill change it to a 454, just wondering about the trans, if it has a stand alone tcm etc. ive done 6.2 conversions before but the were not computer controled. i know the feul pump and all the gauges will work (except the tach) i know the basics but looking for the unusual stuff, also if i go 454 itll be carbed.

I believe there are standalone trans comps out there can't remember who has it though.

95 did not come with a stand alone controller for the trans....you could get one out of a 92 - 93 diesel auto....

Hopefully, the hood has been closed all this time.
Look up underneath and see if rods are thru the side of the block or pan.
Check the harmonic balancer, see if it's coming apart.
Pull the dipstick, check the oil level and for coolant.
Check the radiator for oil scuzz in the coolant
Remove most of the glow plugs - between 4 to 6 are easy - connect some good batteries, see if it will crank over easy.
Take it from there, dude.............

thanks guys. its a bank repo so i dont know anything about it but i have been through the ringer with two previous broke cranks in two other 6.5 trucks. just play it by ear it'd be nice if i could come up with a wreck pretty cheap

If i were you id plan on buying a long block for it plain and simple. IF you cant buy it and put a long block in it and still win then you paid too much for it. Always expect the worse, no history, and if he couldnt pay his bills chances are he wasnt buying amsoil synthetic for it either.

I wouldnt put a 454 in it either, id drop a cummins in it if you ahd the time and money and were doing a swap, but it doesnt ahve a manual.

yea i agree with yall on everything, only reason for the 454 is i have a fresh one ready to go with the serpentine belt system from one of these trucks, just no fi yea would love to have a cummins or a 5 speed, but gotta put head gaskets on my duramax first this would only be a welding truck, its in pretty decent shape 171000 mi and a good price 1000.00 or less anybody got extra 6.5 parts
