Intakes:
I heard that the Stock 06+ LBZ is pretty good already (looks large).
After market:
Any good for MPG? I can't see $250+ for .1 mpg increase. I'd spend that or more for proven 1+.
Any real world HP number on LBZ? I've only read about other models of Duramaxs.
Any good reviews on sevaral different brands with LBZ? All I see are LLY, PDS, CTD, etc...

Everything I've read about aftermarket intakes for the LBZ is it's only good for the louder turbo whistle.

LB7 and LLY intakes are better that aftermaket setups for stock turbo applications. The 2006 LLY LBZ intakes are even better than the LLY and LB7. I would not look for an intake, put the money towards a tuner.

I asked this in another thread and had no response: the test only covers the older intakes. Since the LBZ used a donaldson (supposedly better/more effecient) intake ; would the results still apply ?

Actually, IIRC, the test was only on filters, not the complete CAI. AFAIK, there have been no true complete tests on the CAI's.

I did a ton of real world testing of CAI's a while back and was happy enough with what they did that I run some sort of CAI system on every truck I own. Also with the amount of miles we drive the cleanable filters save us money.

I've also torn down a couple of my engines at 300,000 miles. I saw no signs of poor filter related damage.

One of the companies that supplied a CAI for me to test last year did comment that the 06 factory setup was going to be hard to beat though.;)

Ive read the same information as you underPSI. Basically, it just gives the truck a louder turbo whistle. Not such a great improvment over the stock intake which flows very well from the factory. My buddy has an 06 LBZ and he says hes just going to stick with the stock intake because it works so well.

i dont think you wasted any money, i plan on getting one soon, i know there wont be a huge increase in power but it sure will like the sound, drop in egts, and the availability to clean it often. i had kn in my old truck ( 03 5.3L) and liked it but have heard good things about afe so im going to give it a shot, yet in reality almost all cai's will perform very close to each other.

I've had it since it came out two months after I bought the truck. The whistle is nice as is the lower EGT's but I have a straight exhaust too so that helps a lot. I just think now I wish I had that money for some lift pumps :(
