About every 2 months my truck wont start & it always happens when out & about. I have to crack the bleeded screw on filter & then diesel comes out without any air that i can hear. What is causing this.??? I have a Racor Pre-OEM rail mounted filter. Its happened about 3 times so far.

I assume you don't have the edge juice?

Are you one of the ones who might need to have the injectors replaced? Starting problems seem to be related to bad injectors..

No edge juice here. It eventually starts after pumping up the filter & bleeding. I wonder if iam getting air introduced somewhere causing me to loose prime, but when i crack the bleeder screw i get diesel & no air. It never happens in the driveway but always when iam at a store. Like yesterday it started fine & then went to the doctors office & was there for an hour and when i came out it wouldn't start. It took me 20-30 minutes to get started.

I agree. We had a 2003 truck at work that exhibited the same no-start problem. It turned out to be injectors. I'd take it back to the dealer to have them checked...

I just got injectors replaced for that same problem. no start when hot. mine got worse and worse over about 2 weeks. even with engine cold it was cranking longer before it started.

Called the dealer & they said to just wait till it did it again and then to call and they would come and pick it up. Unless i wanted to leave it at delaers for them to try & duplicate the no start issue. Like i told them it only does it every 1-2 months. Its got me puzzled for sure, truck runs fine & there's no loss in mileage that i can see.

Leave it at the dealer for more than 30 days , for them to figure out. Take a rental car under warranty, and after the 30 days, go for the lemon law.

Still sounds like Injectors or pump.

If you're not running a lift pump, then there should be air above the fuel in the OEM filter cartridge. Vacuum in the fuel system alone will not keep the filter cartridge flooded with fuel - there will be air in the cartridge except immediately after the system is primed. That's normal!

Try priming the filter with the pump until you're sure you are getting nothing but fuel. You may be surprised how much air is purged.

Next step is to replace both filters to ensure they are not causing the problem. The new o-rings may also eliminate a source for air entry into the system.
