Installed a boost gauge yesterday, never got any rating, taped the hole in the intake tube about midway. Then was i went to put WD 40 in the diaphram that controlls the waste gate, i broke the vacumm line, so the waste gate is just open i assume.
Will it harm anything to run with the waste gate open all the time, was told a boost controller wont do any good, and which was is open and which is closer on the rod that controls the gate??
THanks for the help in advance.

Boost controller is the way to go if you don't want to buy the replacement parts.
It is just a spring that holds tension an a rod the holds the wastegate. It replaces all of the vacuum parts.
If it's only a vacuum line that should be an easy fix. However it sounds like something else was wrong with it.
You can run it as it is because you are not putting any boost into the engine according to the gauge. If you run it hard enough to get a lot of black smoke the EGT's will be too high and the engine will probably go boom.
Don't try to run it with boost until you fix the controller or it will likely go boom again.

can i Baleing wire the Wastegate open?? or will the EGT's go too high, i cut the diaphram off, let the rod and reattched the bracket, hoping to use that as part of a home made boost controller, but i have no way to weld on a peice of threaded rod.

You need a bracket bolted to the turbo compressor housing, some nuts and washers and a spring. The right size spring is the key. If you wire it up there will be too much boost.

Too much boost results in at least two major problems. Compression in the cylinders will be excessive, and the heat created by compressing air causes high IAT and EGT's.
No boost on a motor setup to provide fuel for boost will result in excessive heat and high EGT's from over fueling (black smoke).
That's why you need a boost controler.

Do you happen to have any pictures of yours, and what type of spring did you use ( PM me if youd like)

Mine is stock at the moment (vacuum controller).
For some reason mine has always given a bit more boost than a lot of people see with a stock setup. Mine runs around 11 psi max, and 4 psi at 65 mph.
There is a picture I saw before of a home made one. I will look for some pics and post a link.

Search this forum for "boost controller" for more info.
Looks like they used part of the old rod and bracket.
Prime example of a $5.00 boost controler.
