: Praise the LLY
jimmyjones 12-28-2006, 11:53 AM I know this site is used more for talking about problems with their trucks than anything. All I ever hear is problems with LLY's overheating. All this talk has me considering getting an LBZ even though Ive invested alot of money in my 05 LLY and have had no problems with it. How many of you are like me and love your LLY?
I like mine, no issues at all. It does what I need it to do and does it well. I do tow 7000-8000 lbs in 100 degree heat and no overheat.
D Lafleur 12-28-2006, 12:07 PM My LLY is just fine, now. I have no issues now that I am done with the mods.
This is the truck that GM should have built.
crashpilot 12-28-2006, 12:08 PM I routinely pull a 32' 9000lb-ish camper with mine in the high country of Wyoming. NEVER had a problem with heat. Yes the fan runs a little more than I would like it to, but I've had the new airbox installed and so we'll see this summer.
The new airbox might actually be making a difference. When I used to put the cold weather grill cover on, if the outside temp started to get around 32 or so, the fan would start running. Since I've had the cold air box installed I drove it around with the cover on in the lower 40's on the interstate and the fan hasn't come on once. We'll see.
ANYWAY!!! I Love my LLY. It has been a wonderful truck for me. The only gripe is the fan and I'm hopeful about the new airbox taking care of that and then I will have ZERO gripes. Well, cept maybe for the 245 tires but I fixed that too. LOL
Rob from BC Canada 12-28-2006, 12:10 PM Mine's good, and I've hauled myself up some long hills in hot temps with the AC on, and barely brought the fan to life.
There are now several long threads in this forum extolling the virtues of LLY's, and lots of people talking about relatively trouble-free service, usually brought to a close by the regular overheaters repeating their tales of woe. Some had to work quite hard to make it happen!!!
If overheating does not affect you now, unless you plan to change use or location (heavier or hotter climate) it probably never will.
I'm more worried about the #2 and #7 injector wiring issue. It's a potential "dead by the side of the road" issue, and as far as I know, they won't fix it til it breaks.
06's had issues with glowplugs.
new 07's will have more pollution congestion on there.
I think the perfect truck has yet to be invented, and 05 LLY's are about as good as it gets.
Unit453 12-28-2006, 12:19 PM I had no problems out of my 04.5 and I traded it with 57,000 miles.
B-rad 12-28-2006, 12:25 PM mine has been great. 41,000 miles with 18,000 of that with the lift.the only problems its ever had were my fault
nextlevel38 12-28-2006, 12:36 PM Mine has been good other than a few glitches, but no overheat to date.
Dr_goodwrench66 12-28-2006, 12:37 PM Love mine!!!:D No problems here besides cal updates!
NO problems here either, it does everything my old LB7 used to do. I love it.
skeeter225 12-28-2006, 02:10 PM Mine has been good to me as well. My fan kicks on a few times in the summer while towing up some hills, but it has never overheated.
McRat 12-28-2006, 02:13 PM I remember back when they said that the LLY was going to be a nightmare due to emissions control and the LB7 would be the last of the "performance" Dmaxes. :D
McRat 12-28-2006, 02:18 PM Oh, Blue got a High Coolant temp warning at about 5,000ft with a 11.5' camper in the bed, and towing a 22' car trailer with car. About 17k lb combined.
This was in the summer, A/C on, up a steep grade, and going 75mph. Slowing down to a sane speed stopped it. I'd be surprised if any truck would not have gotten hot under the circumstances. We have towed about 30,000mi with the truck and that was the only time the temp went past 210 deg.
freonpushr 12-28-2006, 02:22 PM Bought used in April, 06 with 32k miles. Now at 56k miles, towing is great, no problems so far, yes fan is an issue in our 100 plus degree summers.
'I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT'.
Chuck1 12-28-2006, 02:25 PM My 05 has been solid. I have alternated between the predator, and the edge it's whole life, and other than a plugged fuel filter once she has been rock solid. I had to quit coming here for awhile becuase of all the problems I was reading about LOL. I am worried about the wiring harness too. I have 52,000 on her now.
jmg343 12-28-2006, 02:29 PM I drive my truck every single day. At least once a day I find myself saying, either aloud or to myself, "I love this truck." The LLY is everything I ever wanted in a truck, everything I dreamt about having when I was driving around in my old 1500 gasser. I haven't had a single issue that I didn't cause myself, other than ISS issues, but that is minor and not motor related anyhow. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I LOVE MY LLY!
05c3500ny 12-28-2006, 03:44 PM Love mine. Some warranty work was done, but other than that she has been great. 23,000 and going. She is resting for the winter months now but will be at it in the spring for the RV season.:)
towdog333 12-28-2006, 04:08 PM No issues what so ever;)
DMAX154 12-28-2006, 04:18 PM I love mine. 22000 trouble free miles. Basically done with the mods for now. As eariler stated mine does what I want it to and does it well. I used to tow about 5000 lb 5er it got totaled. Now it will be a 8400 lbs dry weight so I figure about 9000 after I get water and pots pans dishes clothes junk that never leaves the camper. I figure the old girl will handle this load just fine.
Duramaxdave 12-28-2006, 06:46 PM Put's a smile on my face everytime I drive it. I've owned 12 chevy trucks since 1979 and it's by far the best yet. :)
8shot 12-28-2006, 07:40 PM I love my lly, just had to make better then the factory did.
SLEEZ 12-28-2006, 08:26 PM Love mine, no problems here.
lakingslayer 12-28-2006, 08:34 PM I haven't broke mine yet (well except limping the stock trans:) ). Knock on wood!
bcarricarte 12-28-2006, 08:35 PM I love my LLY. She does everything I want and runs strong. Shes been good to me.
Mine does what I want. It is a blast to drive and a great setup for twin turbos. I love it!
smudge122 12-28-2006, 08:44 PM My trans went out, it was starving for fuel so much I had to add a lift pump, the rear tires wore out too quick, and the front tires like to point towards each other under hard acceleration......Oh wait I created all that :D
My 04.5 has had a tune in it since it has had 1200 miles. Zero issues so far!!
BLUEDURAMAX 12-28-2006, 11:58 PM I love my truck..... the only problem i have had is the onstar computer going out and the goodyear tires getting knots on them i guess they couldnt hold up to the duramax.... :D I wish the fuel milage would be a little better. But if i wanted fuel milage i should have bought a little truck....:D
tmm2good 12-29-2006, 12:03 AM No problems here with 30k. I did have 2 injectors changed at about 5k, but no problems other than that.
TNRGreene 12-29-2006, 12:24 AM All good here
Max Power 12-29-2006, 12:26 AM I am quite happy with mine. Like lots here I run 500hp daily and over 600hp at the track. Not a single problem yet with 40,000 miles.
jimmyjones 12-29-2006, 09:53 AM Now thats what I like to hear! You all just confirmed the fact that Im not the only one who still has a sh#$ eatin grin on my face everytime I start her up! Guess Ill pass on the LBZ and wait for the 400 hp duramax Ive heard rumors about in 2010.
bcflawnlandscape 12-29-2006, 12:38 PM I love my LLY. I run my own lawn and landscape biz and pull bobcats on 27 foot gooseneck in 100 degree weather which is prolly about 12k pounds and with no problems. I have a edge juice with attitude and straight piped. I Love it!
MAX Attitude 12-29-2006, 12:50 PM I drive my truck every single day.
Well put! :exactly: I find myself saying the same thing.
atver300 12-29-2006, 01:06 PM I love mine I travel in it use to to tow and go off road and occasianly race it. I recently straight piped and love the sound no known problems 27,000 miles
Thunderhead7 12-29-2006, 01:58 PM No problems with my 05, but its not broken in yet!! No overheating issues
gwroop 12-29-2006, 07:41 PM Love mine 86000 on 04 1/2 lly, Tow 13000 lb 5th wheel. Fan now and then. mpg is what evryone else gets. Driven a lot of truck this one is the best
xgardx 12-29-2006, 08:00 PM LOVE MINE AS WELL!!!! no overheating or major problems so far...
Pull 5,000-10,000lbs load from ohio to florida often, never had the temp needle climb over 210 once.
only problems i've had is with the damn CD players in the thing, GMs replaced 4 of them, ( 3 within the first 8,000) miles.
And wish i would've gotten either the ext. or crew cab...
Had good results for the past 5,000 miles or so since i put an EDGE Juice and A2 setup in there as well.
craSSh 12-29-2006, 08:02 PM i concur........
K-max05 12-29-2006, 08:08 PM MInes been great too! 50k on it, tuned since1k,harder on fuel than my lb7,and as far as the lbz i'll just keep adding to the old lilly. Have to be beating it hard with trailer/20 k on it to get fan roaring. can't wait for the new trans and big charger.
Turbobruce 12-29-2006, 08:15 PM I'm jealous!!
Glad to see a lot of happy LLy owners. I'm sure I will praise my truck sooner or later.
kenent1 12-29-2006, 09:04 PM Love mine, had #7 injecter replaced @ 12000 mi in September, dealer said it's only the 2nd one that they had seen on the LLY go bad.
Felt good pulling my buddy's '94 1 ton, extended cab, 4x4 dually dodge to Beloit, WI, from Chicago, coulden't even tell it was on the goose neck trailer.
His head light switch shorted and burnt the truck up.
Tony
Never had the truck overheat pulling 40ft 10000lb
park model trailer in 100* heat.
BigAl491 12-30-2006, 08:55 AM LLY has been good for me. The biggest problem thus far has been the "loose nut behind the wheel"
At 37,000 + miles I enjoy the truck more now than when it was new. I'm still bone stock, but man the temptation to do some mods keeps getting stonger.
05'Max 12-30-2006, 12:29 PM I just got back from San Diego and a great Christmas trip. We did the straight highway down there and took the coast road back. Really pushed the LLY both ways and it ran perfect. I don't haul anything so the problems some poeple talk about here I don't experience. My truck just loves to cruise at eighty. LA freeways are crazy and if you aren't willing to run seventy five or eighty they will run you over or worst yet be very indignant towards you. The coast road (Hwy 1 ) will test your truck in every way from power to suspension but the views are well worth it especially through the Big Sur area. My LLY runs good and I'm sure that the general has made improvments on the LBZ as well as the LMM and I'm sure that they would welcome my money for a trade in but, I can't come up with a single reason to do so....................
Kampzite 12-30-2006, 01:13 PM I also love my LLY, it has been the best truck I have ever had...It is not a chronic overheater, but it does get hot climbing long grades, but the warning light has only come on once and it has never puked coolant, nor have I ever had to pull over, and that only happens pulling our 13,000lb fifthwheel.
My '01 gasser would have grenaded trying to do what this truck does.
bakrobb 12-30-2006, 01:37 PM I tow a 30 foot fifth wheel and a 16ft boat behind my fifth wheel in the heat of the summer up and down hills with no problem at all, Best pick-up I ever owned.
APEXrtx 12-31-2006, 11:15 AM I like mine.....haven't had any major issues really.
Ben46a 12-31-2006, 03:59 PM Love mine. Been used in truck pulls since it had 1500 miles on it. Never heats up and have had no issues with it. Its got 50,ooo miles on it now with lots left.
BBTOM 12-31-2006, 05:16 PM At 24000 miles the only issue has been the stearing shaft lube. Love the duramax.
shortnugly 12-31-2006, 05:45 PM Bought the 05 with 50k. Now have 53K. NO problems so far.
Gobs of power.
Very happy.
sparkyss 12-31-2006, 06:23 PM 25,000 miles and counting. The best truck I've owned, wouldn't buy anything else.
funtoy 12-31-2006, 08:47 PM 42,000 miles and no problem, wife even likes it.
sloverado 01-01-2007, 01:52 AM 12000 miles so far on my 05 and all is well.
doubleduce 01-01-2007, 05:30 PM 65000 miles and going strong. Only problem was wiring harness #2 and #7 injectors plugs. Last spring the truck did heat up a little pulling my trailer. Not enough to set off alarms, but decided to get the V2 with fan. Since then I hardly hear the fan.
jermstyle 01-02-2007, 01:40 PM One more positive LLY owner. The engine has had a stage 3 PPE tune since 2500 miles and no engine problems what so ever.
I’ve had a few small issues with the truck, but it was all taken care of under warranty.
cowdoc 01-02-2007, 02:41 PM I put 45k on my '05 with ZERO problems. 40k on an '02 lb7 with ZERO problems. The only reasons I traded the '05 were for the 100k warranty and bucket seats. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right decision. Also ZERO problems with the LBZ, just not as good a fuel mileage so far. The lly will be a hard act to follow in my opinion!
Tim G. 01-02-2007, 03:31 PM I have two.
'04.5 and '06.
The 04 is the daily driver 2500. 25,000 miles. I don't pull much with it, but I had 15,000lb behind it this weekend. No problems.
The '06 is a LLY with the 6 speed Ally. 37,000 miles. 36,000 of those are towing. 12,000 of those were towing 14,000lb all over the US. The rest is all pulling more than 10,000lb. It's never seen a load less than 10,000lb.
Max I have pulled is 22,500lb. Yes I know the stock hitch was overlaoded...and yes it turned it into a pretzel. the new 2.5" hitch is on there.... It just pulled 18,000lb this morning...
No problems with this truck. We put brakes on it not long ago.. The GM man charged $1400 for the brake job (I thought it would be under $1000.
lonestar 01-03-2007, 09:54 AM 04.5 with no problems @ 45k Bone stock w/265's
Love this truck so much my wife is jealous!!
Designated Dave 01-03-2007, 11:42 AM I have to say I love my truck too. I was more than happy w/ the stock power but decided to add a programer for the mileage. My wife loves it too. I heard her talking to one of her friends and her friend asked her why she would want to drive a diesel. She got a funny grin on her face and said "I just like blowin smoke at the little foreign cars with the annoying exhausts." I didn't figure she even noticed the smoke after the programmer. I guess its just another thing we have common.
radron 01-03-2007, 02:59 PM 30,000 miles only problem so far was the steering shaft , I relubed myself with the help of the do it yourself section. that was 20,000 miles ago and it hasn't reappeared. When towing the 26 gal fuel tank needs to be bigger , checking into the 52 gal titan supertanks. Pull a 21 ft Ragen toy hauler all summer long and it pulls it with ease. I have to say I really enjoy my truck
WhiteSilverado 01-03-2007, 10:05 PM I do, I do, I do love my LLY. The only problem I've had with it is a squeeky accessory drive belt (since fixed) and the LLY programming doesn't like extra air in, hence the removal of my cold air intake.
Other than that, it's doing great and I enjoy driving it! :D
Silver Fox 01-04-2007, 12:05 AM Silver Fox has been with me since May 2005. I got an attitude about the truck when I didn't know about this forum, bought Silver Fox and found the 06came with 360 HP and 6 speed. Ate my heart out over that one! Without you guys and your support I am sure to get the truck I want next time.
My mileage running empty is 15.5 to 16.5 town and highway. That extra gear would make my flights at 10 mph above posted less costly.
Last year going from Denton, TX to North Wood, ND. I got the wiring harness problem just North of Council Bluffs, about 30 K on odometer. It was interesting the dealer took care of the truck and I felt let down renting a car to get to North Wood and back to Omaha after getting my wife from my daughters home.
The truck is totally stock and really has only caused problems over running biodiesel in to cold a weather. Changed filter and then it was OK. Don't trust running biodiesel since then though.
Now I have over 42K on odometer and the truck really is good and doesn't let me down. The harness did put it off the road just like turning off the switch.
I am going to drive all three 07 diesels and start looking to trade but want to let information on the new engines come in before I jump at the change.
Have fun! Silver Fox and friends!
rustynuts 01-04-2007, 12:35 AM so far so good. 29k on her to date. just dyno'd today for the first time and came in at 405rwhp/740tq. been dragging a 18k trailer around with no problems, thanks to txchris's v2. stock tranny is hanging in there.
DangerousDuramax 01-04-2007, 12:50 AM 39K on mine and still running great. Has had a "box" on it since 1500 miles and I drive it like I stole it. I had to have the drivers side mirror replaced and the drivers seat motors so no major issues. It did get up to 218* once but when your pullin 11K up a 4% grade with your foot in it that can be expected. Other than that it's never seen anything over 210*. This is a GREAT truck.
cowdoc 01-04-2007, 10:59 AM Silver Fox has been with me since May 2005.
I thought the same thing about the extra gear, but so far I get 1.5-2.5 mpg worse with my '07 than I did with my '05  .
jims68 01-04-2007, 01:45 PM Just a couple of small problems. The number 2 and 7 harness issue and my upper oil pan gasket. That was ugly because they had to pull the tranny to get to it. The out of state dealer that did my harness didn't even know about the harness problem and was starting to replace injectors till I pulled the info off of this site for them to figure it out. Other then that it has been way better then any truck I have ever owned. Love to tow which all the other trucks I have had wasn't the case.
cr hirsh 01-05-2007, 05:53 AM I love my 05. daily work truck pulling 5000lb 6x12 enclosed service trailer. no overheating etc etc. 3200o miles as i post. o5 sierra srw reg cab plain jane package including armstrong powered mirrors and windows. D/A BONE STOCK!!!!!!!!!!
farmdog 01-05-2007, 07:12 AM I've only had mine a couple of weeks, but so far so good. It's got a lot to live up to after the '02 I had. Loved that one as well.
mikegolfmc 01-05-2007, 12:25 PM 2004.5 4X4 SRW 3500 extended cab. I've got 75000 on mine. Towed a 14,000lb bobcat and trailer thru the mts of socal all last summer and no overheating. Only problem I've had is intermediate shafts, only seem to last 35k before needing replacement.
AKDZL 01-05-2007, 02:01 PM So far my intermediat shaft, torsion bar crossmember rubber mounts out, truck runs good. I live on an Island so everything is barged or flown in. Fuel is barged, and we had a gas shortaged. Everyone had only 5 gallons a gas a week for 2 weeks. I was the only one driving around, besides the bigger diesel work trucks, flatbeds, etc. It is cold out, so I leave the truck running while I go to the store. So I just smile and say, yea its a diesl.
Hashfather 01-10-2007, 09:47 AM I love my truck, no overheating issues to date.
JUSTIFIED HD2 01-10-2007, 07:39 PM Mine has been great, I love my LLY, no overheat issues to date.
joncar 01-11-2007, 12:11 AM love my lly..no over heating..pull 10,11000 lbs 5th wheel..joncar
billj0124 01-11-2007, 06:45 PM I bought my 04 LLY new and live in Phoenix, AZ where it gets hot (115)! I have towed my 30' 5th wheel with a 12' quad trailer behind it with 3 quads on it (55' total length) and no overheat issues at 6% grades running Hypertech level 2. Like most say, if it doesn't now, it won't in the future...
Sulley 01-16-2007, 12:10 AM Runs good. Have Edge w/Juice, gets hot but no overheat yet. Topped out at 236F pulling 35' toy hauler up fairly steep grade in 100F. Fan kicked in sucked lots of power, made lots of noise, and I was only able to maintain 60mph with Edge on level 2/3. I guess I can't complain since I was towing 15K. Would like to have been able to gain speed though.
2500hd05 01-16-2007, 12:12 AM Runs good. Would like to have been able to gain speed though.
wont get hot if you tune the edge down when towing that much.
Aaron71 01-17-2007, 01:05 AM I haven't had a temperature problem with my truck at all. But I did change the clutch fan to see if I could get rid of it being lock in. The new fan seems to to the exact same thing so now I have an extra. I would like to do the exectric fan thing by flex a lite but it is a little spendy. I've seen it for about 500 in the JC Whitney catalog and the local Napa dealer wants a little over 800 . It would eliminate the clutch fan noise though. It is supposed to add about 15-20hp and 22-27 ft lbs. I must admit that the electric fans worry me a little but I have had them on my 2005 1/2 ton Chevrolet that is absolutely abused because of dust and low stop start speeds every day. That truck has about 30,000 miles with no problems with the electric fans this might be the next addition to the LLY.
rustynuts 02-21-2007, 01:00 AM I thought the same thing about the extra gear, but so far I get 1.5-2.5 mpg worse with my '07 than I did with my '05  .
that'll change once you hit the 20k mark. that's when they loosen up and you see the mileage gain.
bluebeast 02-21-2007, 01:29 AM No problems with mine, Used to haul/work all the time, couldn't really ask for a better truck... ok, sometimes wish it was a dually
Tom2500HD 02-22-2007, 12:35 AM It is so refreshing to see a bunch of LLY owners who are happy with their trucks and don't whine about overheating. I pull trailers and mine is good. I haven't put any "hot rod" parts on it. On some of the forums at this site you can't say you haven't had OH trouble or they will beat you up pretty badly. I believe that a guy could say he pulled the Queen Mary up a 70% grade for two hours in 120 deg OAT, and kept eng temps under 210, and the "gloomers and doomers" would tell him that he was really overheating. Geez.
Like I said, this is nice.
Wasted Income 02-22-2007, 07:35 PM LOVE mine....70,000 hard miles, cut the wiring harness at 3000 miles for a fingerstick, programmer since 6000 miles (Predator, then EFI Live)
Hasn't missed a beat till the pulley thing last week.
imkevdog 02-22-2007, 07:46 PM my o5 is great ,hottest it got was 230 in tenn ,ordered v2 / fan should have alot less fan, less fan= mpg
skoryaro2 02-22-2007, 07:54 PM I'm happy - no major problems @ 50K
The Neens 02-22-2007, 08:12 PM I hate mine...38,000 miles, 1 water pump and only 19 MPG with a 500rwhp tune :D
rcpd34 02-22-2007, 11:29 PM Love mine. Was pulling a loader all week and had power to spare!
JerryH 02-23-2007, 02:19 PM I had a 2004.5 lly and had no problems with overheating. I pulled a 21' toy box to Alaska and back (11,000 miles ) last summer with no problems. I live in Arizona which can get warm in the summer. I traded it at 78,000 miles for a 2006 lbz.
bigboy 02-25-2007, 12:25 AM My 05 LLY get pretty heavy use.It has had atune on it since 3K. I regularly pull 600 gallons of water and about 2000lbs in other equpment on a 20 ft flat in Atlanta traffic. Never had any overheating issues, only problem has been bad fuel filter. change every 3k with oil and have had no problems since. I currently have 65,000 on truck. You can not beat the D/A combo! futhermore, seems like my truck is just getting broke in!
Mods: Magnaflow 4" cat back, S&B intake, Superchip
bbahun 02-25-2007, 12:11 PM Love mine. I get about 18-20 MPG driving around and 16mpg pulling a tool trailer in the summer. No issues yet(26K miles). My only concern is that I will have some clutch/flywheel issues after my 36,000 mile warranty is up. My brother-in-law has an 06 with more stock horse power but I still blew his doors off last week. I think the manual trany makes a difference.
bruce625 02-28-2007, 02:43 PM No engine prolbems with mine mostly the crappy steering rattle. Just got home this morning from my second trip to Drake CO. with a very loaded trailer and truck even in the 20 degree weather the fan came on a couple of times but the temp was normal, pulled similar load last Labor Day San Diego to Drake CO estimate 13000lbs including trailer the temp did raise on the grade to 230 until I slowed from 75 to 65 damn truck just wanted to go faster heheheh and still got 13-14 mpg no let downs except the speedo that broke the day we left for CO.

travrazz 02-28-2007, 03:07 PM Replaced the steering box on my at 10,000 miles under warrenty. Now have 60k and hasn't missed a beat. Been running an edge for 35K miles now too.

Your right. I already finished my 12 step program on overheating.:)
gdura 02-28-2007, 07:12 PM I had an lly that i beat the piss out of. Running stacks, 4wd launches, plowing in the winter. beating on it in the summer never gave me a single problem.
gdura 02-28-2007, 07:13 PM oh i also drove it like i stole it. I just hope my LBZ will be as good.
gopokes 02-28-2007, 07:41 PM I have owned each of the big 3 and an lb7 and the lly is tops in my book
aj5645 02-28-2007, 07:50 PM No Dmax issues as of yet, 18000 mi.
Changed out towing mirrors twice, under warranty.
I tow a 10000# 5er, hasn't OH yet.
Concerned about #2,#7 wiring harness, still love the truck:) . AJ
naayu 02-28-2007, 10:42 PM No prob's here, Tow 34' Travel Trailer about every other weekend to Myrtle beach, SC. No overheating so far
Sulley 03-01-2007, 01:28 AM Did you guys see the video of the DM towing the FedEx truck? Well it snowed here in Washington today and Dejavu, ended up pulling an approx 35-40k 5 axle rig up a hill (1/2 mile) with ice/slush and 4-5" of snow on the road. Lucky I had my sled deck and sled on for extra weight. Truck had power just couldn't make it up the hill.
cowboy6240 03-13-2007, 01:25 PM I have a 2005 lly in a 3/4 ton. I pull 4 horses, gear and hay to SD for vacation. I figure it grosses about 18k loaded. I have pulled mountain passes in 100 degree weather. The truck has 54k miles on it. So far, it's never overheated.
I like mine, no issues at all. It does what I need it to do and does it well. I do tow 7000-8000 lbs in 100 degree heat and no overheat.

Sounds like a good rig Cowboy, fill out your signature so we can see what you're running.
cory e 05 dmax 03-13-2007, 08:17 PM all good just a steering shaft. on the gas kicking ***!
MaxxedOut 03-13-2007, 08:22 PM Love it,only had steering shaft replaced.
cory e 05 dmax 03-13-2007, 08:22 PM sulley were do you go to see that video of the fed ex truck.
Recently returned from a 4,000 mile trip in my '05 2500 HD cc 4x4, and the more I drove it the more I loved it. I had it aligned and put on 285 Michelin tires before the trip, and it was effortless on the interstate. I did 14 hours and 1000 miles the first day, and could have gone more.
Had the steering shaft replaced a couple weeks ago. Other than that, only a couple of electronic glitches, but I think a lightning strike caused those.
Wife has a 2002 Chrysler Sebring Conv, and says my truck rides better.
6.2 M1008 03-14-2007, 10:22 PM I loved my 05 LLY. I bought it slavage and had no problems with it other than wreck damage. NEVER overheated. I put about 10k on it. Then I had to go and fall asleep at the wheel and destroy it forever. (cry)
michael nelson 03-14-2007, 11:06 PM if any one seen my post I'am sorry-
michael nelson 03-14-2007, 11:06 PM love my lly-no probs 23k-nelson out
kingsview13 03-15-2007, 12:07 AM Just finished a 4000 mile round trip from B.C. to New Mexico, with 3400 LB. slide in camper and towing a 3 horse bumper pull horse trailer. The '04.5 LLY dually GMC handled the trip beautifully. The tow/haul mode of the Allison tranny is a wonderful feature when descending steep grades with a heavy load. My wife loves driving the truck even when carrying and pulling heavy loads. As others have said," I love this truck". Would get another Duramax/Allison GMC in a heartbeat.
acroflyin 03-16-2007, 09:54 PM What temp would be considered overheat? I pull my 27' goosneck loaded with a total gross vehicle weight of 34,000 lbs, and no that is not a typo. Grossly overload I know but this beast does the job! Once in a while I do get up to about 215 or so but the fan kicks in and cools it back down. This is a long way from redline but would you still consider it overheating? Also what is the weight of the truck by itself? I would like to know what my loaded trailer weighs.
aka108 03-16-2007, 10:18 PM Only problem I've had in 122 to 124 degree heat with 2500 lb in bed is the AC won't keep it at 72. Lake Havasu in mid summer is hot. Don't tow more than the Nissan so can't speak from trailering.
Sulley 03-17-2007, 11:21 PM sulley were do you go to see that video of the fed ex truck.
? don't know, sorry. I just bumped into the thread one day and someone had the link to it, I think it was WGN news.
jimmyjones 03-18-2007, 04:07 AM I just returned from Iraq today and after 7 months this truck is better than I remember! I have a hard time believing that there is a better combo out there, I dont see how the LBZ and 6 speed can be that much better. From what Ive heard it gets worse fuel mileage. If thats the case in my eyes the LLY is as good as it gets. Get the OH fix and your set. SCIII and Mike L.,here I come!
bhbuilding 03-18-2007, 07:46 AM Thank you JimmyJones...you guys are the reason we can do any of this stuff and ya so far I love my LLY too :thankyou2 :thumb:
Guzzler 03-18-2007, 07:51 AM No problems with mine i am loving it except for the injector but i am pretty sure that had to do witht the dealer screwing me over. Oh well i am happy with truck sio far!!!
joelykool 03-18-2007, 08:17 AM I feel the lly is the best of all the generations(or at least tie with the lbz). I say this becasue it doesn't have injector issues and gets great mileage. Many don't overheat so that isn't an issue and if it is, get the v1 rad mod and be done with it. Bothe my dad and I have the lly and they are a solid engine.

TexasDriver 03-18-2007, 12:02 PM Yeah, what you guys do is spectacular. Welcome home sir.:D
Darren Kenley 03-26-2007, 08:08 PM what is rad mod v2 with fan and do you get from gm or where?

nekkidhillbilly 03-27-2007, 05:17 AM yeah i love mine dont tow much but run the piss out of it .....no problems
lancebinner 03-27-2007, 12:59 PM Got my 05 mid June last year with 24,000 on it. To date it has 51,000 and no overheating problems. I have hauled 12 square of shingles in the box last Aug and I never heard the fans come on. So does a person have to do a bunch of mods. to get this to happen cause mine is bone stock.
David L51 03-28-2007, 11:59 AM Absolutely no complaints about mine. Pulls or carries everything I ask it to without a complaint.

You need to pull a heavy load up a grade of 6% or better for extended periods of time and it usually nneds to be at least 80 degrees or better.
KarDoc 03-28-2007, 04:31 PM Just returned from spending over 3 months on the road in our 28' 5th wheel. Put over 11k on it ('05 LLY). It's up to 65k now. Only thing other than routine maintenance was lubing the steering shaft. Great truck!

I didnt need the 6% grade, the 40 knot winds and my "sail" were enough to do it when my LLY was factory, nowadays, the week link is behind the engine. New Suncoast setup to the rescue. :D
01Duramax6spd 03-28-2007, 07:53 PM Anyone have really high miles on an LLY? I'm looking at one currently? Can they handle 30K LBS without heating in summer running 75mph?
