Hi guys,

I have a 2003 Silverado LS with a stock DMAX. Does somebody know the rated power of the alternator ? I'm wondering how much I can add to it. I want to add high power lights on my bully bar and may be on the back rack. I also have fog and low beam coming on at the same time of the high beam.

Thx

It could be a 105A also. Check your glove box for the RPO code.

yea if you got snow plow prep(vyu) you got the biggger 145amp altenator....If no prep package you got the 105....I have no intention of running a plow, but wanted the package for the bigger alt on mind, especailly w/the draw of glow plugs and intake heater...

Check RPO code in glove box.

8C6 Alternator, 145 amp (MSRP = $140.00)
8X5 Alternators, dual 105 amp (MSRP =$224.00)
K68 Alternator, 105 amps

The amp rating is also etched into top of alternator

Good call,

I'll check that out.

I also have a DC amp probe I'll take a couple of current reading with different things On and OFF drawing current.

I looked at the code and I have the 105 one. I took the current reading with an ampclamp at the alternator output right after a cold start and it draws 105 A. It's then overloaded. When intake heaters shut down the currents drop to 45 A with LO beam on and cab heater at 2. Hi, LO and FOG beam all on with the cab heaters draws 62 A, which gives up to 40 free Amps. 480 W available as a dead maximum. Make sens ?
