: HPTuners for LBZ?
4rotorCorvette 12-28-2006, 08:01 AM I am saving money for the HPTuner. I finally made a hard decision between it and EFI Live, as they are both very similar. I understand that HP is behind EFI in diesel tuning. Any thoughts on HPTuners especially concerning diesels?
turbo lcc 12-28-2006, 12:04 PM What made you choose HPTuners over EFILive? - just curious :)
TIM Z 12-28-2006, 05:09 PM I Just sold my HP Tuners Cuz im tired of waiting, Seems like EFI live is the Ticket for big Diesel Tunes.
GMC2500HD 12-28-2006, 10:39 PM I think you will see that LBZ tuning is out from EFI already. Why would you want to wait for something that you are not sure when it is coming out. Might as well buy something that is tested and working, and has worked IIRC in the past flawlessly.
Max Power 12-28-2006, 11:16 PM Go with EFI Live. I have had the opportunity to play with both and I definitely like EFI better. EFI Live is a GREAT company to work with and you will be glad you went with them. They are are the cutting edge.

I have to agree.. I have played with HPT too and its not in the same league as EFILive
Wannabeatadmax 12-29-2006, 02:51 PM Very true,
Efilive has custom operating systems, Hp has none.
Efilive has updates with added things at least 1 time a month, Hp dont.
Efilive has a HUGE customer base and A VERY active forum section on this site, I cant say that for HP.
Efilive has always treated thier current and future customers with respect.
That is why we chose my brand. I have seen both versions and EFILive out does it on EVERY level. It is like comparing a porshe to a pinto.
Just my 2c..
4rotorCorvette 12-30-2006, 07:57 AM Ok, I'm pretty much convinced to go with EFI Live. Wow.
I chose the HP because I work as a tech at a large GM dealer and it seems that more HPTs are on the Camaros/Silverados that my co-workers own/work on. HPT is American and it seems like they have more GM V8 vehicles. I am very much into the Duramax, and the EFI seems at least as good as the HP at everything else... I originally had my mind set on EFI, but my good friend at work who's an outstanding tech talked me into the HP. OK, so EFI it is!
Thanks guys
4rotorCorvette 01-01-2007, 06:00 PM :) I have decided to go with EFI. Thanks for all the input.
HP Tuners 01-02-2007, 06:27 PM We plan to release LBZ software in March. That's just the way development plans work unfortunately.
I think some of the posts here are naturally a little biased to EFIlive and that's understandable. We demonstrated switchable tunes *and* real time tuning at SEMA. It is in beta and will be out soon. Our LB7 and LLY software has in most cases more parameters than EFIlive and i'm not aware of anything they support that we don't. We do generally provide free updated software on a 30-45 day basis, in fact it's almost daily updates for those who use our beta software.
We always treat our customers with respect, customers drive our developments and the future of our company.
Good luck with your project.
Chris...
Cobra#3747 01-02-2007, 06:34 PM Do you offer free software upgrades for life or is it limited to a year ect...?
HP Tuners 01-02-2007, 07:15 PM Do you offer free software upgrades for life or is it limited to a year ect...?
free for life.
Cobra#3747 01-02-2007, 07:19 PM Was it always that way? I know that I had looked at a few different companies when I was shopping for the tunning the Vette 2 years ago and one of the companies didnt offer free software upgrade for life, cant remember who it was. I do recall that helped me select when I was looknig then.
Anyway, glad to see that you also offer it.
HP Tuners 01-02-2007, 08:45 PM We used to charge an upgrade fee but from memory that effectively ended late in 04, we refunded anyone who had paid for the 05 year. It's funny thesedays we actually get more people asking to pay for upgrades...
Anyway, bottom line is its free :D
DURAtotheMAX 01-02-2007, 09:45 PM what extra parameters does HP Tuners offer over EFILive?
I have no idea, Im just curious :confuzeld:
4rotorCorvette 01-04-2007, 10:38 PM My EFILive arrived today. I am very happy with it. I am sure that the HP is a great product as well. Thanks.
atver300 01-04-2007, 11:17 PM I too have been trying to choose between efi live or hp tuners and the real big deal breaker is im wanting to tune 4 different vehicles, 1 being my duramax and the rest being gm v8 gassers and a with the hp tuners i want have to buy any additional licenses to do all my cars though im still looking im leaning twoards the hptuners
02 WS6 TA 01-08-2007, 05:13 PM I'm a HP Tuners user on the F bods, and am very satisfied. I anxiously await LBZ Tuning, keep up the good work guys!
TwoFast4Lv 01-09-2007, 02:26 AM HPTuner now has a very agressive pricing plan making it easy to use. I would have expandanded my HPT package years ago if this had been in place then ;)
foff667 01-09-2007, 01:47 PM Yeah our LB7/LLY unlimited $2000 range as compared to nearly $5500 for efilive, and even for new users our upgrade credits system can really help get you a ton of unlimited licenses quickly.

Do you throw all othe OBD II GM vehicles for that same $2000? If not how much would it cost to be able to tune an unlimited number of 1998 and newer GM Cars and trucks? Less then $6,000?

Huh? Last I checked this was a Diesel forum, Im talking about diesel licenses, but talk all you want regardless, a lot of this will change even further in HP Tuners favor in a couple of weeks with our new release.

Better not need a new Hardware up grade I JUST did it LOL!
foff667 01-10-2007, 10:37 AM na, no new hardware this time around, just some major software changes as well as some other surprises thrown in.
TrakDay 01-18-2007, 02:33 AM I can't wait till the update is available for the LBZ. I have HPT for my GTO now and can't wait to hook it up to the truck and straighten out my tire size and whatnot!
My05duramax 01-18-2007, 06:45 PM I agree. My brother is getting it for his redline and can't wait to use it on my truck
TwoFast4Lv 01-19-2007, 12:50 AM I must admit in the past I was upset with the way they handeled the Autotap upgrade. Main reason I did not look much at EFI Live besides the high cost.
Some of us are having issues with HPT and I am hoping support will be coming soon.
I thought I had decided to make a larger investment in HPT products but we will have to see how this works out at this point.
I will say support for gassers seems to be plentiful. We are finaly doing our first LS2 GTO and have some good tips from there board. Considering they would not even sell to us last year that is nice ;)
hello,
i am new to site and still trying to figure what some of add ons do the duramax. what is this tuning software? what does it do the truck, please beware with me. thanks:rolleyes:
atver300 02-08-2007, 07:51 PM HPTuners.com will show you pics of screen shots and a more in depth explanation but hptuners allows you to change engine and transmission parameters for performance or economy or what ever you want. I have only had mine about 3 weeks but i am tuning my dmax and my 5.3L V8 s10 with it and its the best $500 I ever spent

It allows you to alter literally hundreds of engine parameters, everything from egr, fueling, timing, etc.
It also acts as a scan too so that you can datalog information & make changes using this information as your guide.
www.hptuners.com/help has most of the info you'll need to know about the software end of it.
02 WS6 TA 02-16-2007, 09:11 AM c'mon, March!!! ;)
02 WS6 TA 02-18-2007, 01:17 PM Another bump for March, I got my *** spanked friday night by my buddy's 3500 DRW Dodge on a Bully Dog tune. :help:
hewmack 02-25-2007, 05:44 PM waiting for hp tuners to shut egr off and put exhaust on... Cant wait
turbo lcc 02-25-2007, 06:47 PM Where did you read that they were releasing LBZ tuning in March.. I can't find that anywhere.
foff667 02-25-2007, 07:44 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1500214&postcount=10
02 WS6 TA 02-28-2007, 09:11 PM Thank God tomorrow is March 1. ;)
ChampionTransmission 03-06-2007, 12:37 PM It's March!
turbo lcc 03-06-2007, 12:48 PM So will this be part of HTP 30-45day update or a special LBZ update? Any idea if it will include the RTT?
02 WS6 TA 03-06-2007, 08:38 PM It's March!
Heck yeah it is! This is gonna be a gooooood month, I can feel it. :D
TrakDay 03-08-2007, 10:56 PM OMG... I need this so bad. I need to account for my tire size and throw together a few tunes for performance, towing, and cruising...
foff667 03-13-2007, 12:50 AM Got some good news & some bad news
Good news is we've decided to move up our next public release a little bit and it will include some big stuff that alot of people have been waiting on for far too long. We've also added some neat new features that will surely make some folks very happy as well.
Bad news is because we've decided to move up the release it won't give us enough time to finish up the LBZ coding.
We don't have a set date on when the next public release will be available other then soon and we're going to try our best to make sure LBZ is finished & ready for the following release.
I know this might be a bit disappointing, but we want to be able to put out a product that is 100%.
Thanks
Bill
02 WS6 TA 03-13-2007, 09:02 AM  Oh great, I can hear the competition already.
EFI is looking better everyday. :(
turbo lcc 03-13-2007, 12:43 PM So will the "March" release have the RTT for the duramax?
hewmack 03-13-2007, 02:48 PM EFI is looking better everyday. :(
I hear ya. I would jump for efi live but I truly dont have a reason for it other then wanting to shut off my egr and maybe mess with the tune a little bit. I cant go all out till I build the trans and wont have funds for that for at least a year. plus with my buddy having hptuners already all i need is 100 dollars for the credits. I guess I will just have to wait and see since Im in no hurry other then wanting a exhaust and not wanting to hack into the wire harness to put a finger stick in

I see you have a predator - They will do a "custom" tune of you. It might be worth a call to see if they will turn if off if that is all your lookin for.
hewmack 03-13-2007, 04:24 PM there suppose to be making a egr shut off but idk when thats going to be. besides Ive read that egt run high in the 120 tune so I wanted to see if i could read and see what the tunes are and modify them accordingly
02 WS6 TA 03-14-2007, 10:06 PM EFI is looking better everyday. :(
Not to me, as I have about 30 cars using the HPT program. It blows, but I have to be patient. HPT hasn't disappointed me yet.
My05duramax 03-31-2007, 01:35 PM Any more news lately? Haven't heard anything

thats the current status.
I cant wait for this relase my self . I have been useing HPT Doing hacking for a lil extra cash on the gasers. I have done one of my friends 05 dually D-Max. From the 15 or so flashes that I made the truck really came to life. Especially the Scratches to the Allys Brain. With out Him haveing Any Guages to Moniter EGT, or Haveing histogram support To watch Fuel perimiters It makes it hard to tune. I am verry Faithfull to HPT But I just purchased an 06 LBZ and I have an Itch that I want to scratch Really Bad. Hope this update comes really soon Or I will be the owner of a New EFI Live Cable.
foff667 05-01-2007, 01:26 AM Yeah we are diligently working to make this next public release the biggest & best ever. Hopefully nobody will be disappointed with what we bring to the table ;)

Wait till you get you Duramax tuning ;) Do not get me wrong I love it for all the other cars but the D-max support is not up to speed yet...
Heck I had to get a file from Turbo LCC to even scan my truck with!
I am also patient but It would be nice to have a useful scanner to blow my truck up with ;)
I know with time they will get up to speed. I WON'T buy EFI Live unless I have to. all these years later I am still smarting from the crappy Autotap issues ;)
The Machinist 05-02-2007, 11:59 PM foff667, any ballpark figures on release dates?
foff667 05-03-2007, 02:23 PM Too much going on right now to nail down a release date...we'll be doing a ton of internal testing over the next few weeks though.
So probably not for at least another month....
02 WS6 TA 05-04-2007, 09:50 PM I bowed out of the Duramax club before the release, but it's all good, I have already ordered licenses for the Cobalt and the Silvy SS. HPT Rocks!!!
TrakDay 05-21-2007, 10:17 PM I am still waiting for this... My truck needs some help right now. My PPE was stolen and I am stuck on Stage 2. And I need to adjust my tire size.
FYI, in case any of you guys have the older serial cable model. You will not be able to tune the LBZ when it gets released. It requires the newer USB model.
From HPTuners:
LBZ tuning is only supported by the USB interfaces, you would need to upgrade to be able to even communicate with the LBZ pcm/tcm. Upgrade options are located on your customer login page at www.hptuners.com
