I have a 96 6.5TD,light duty 2500, ran super up to 3 months ago, started dying going down the road like you had turned ignition off.taken to local shop they work on gas & diesel. stated probably gotten bad fuel. replaced filter ,said was nasty, kept truck a week replaced filter again, said they could not get it to stall. had it towed again to shop replaced filter again they put in rescue 911 3-4 bottles.said it would take awhile to clear out. it will stall going down the road, will restart quickly or not,now it idle and stall and start back or restart hours later or next day. petcock test, worked fine,no problems ,no codes on computer.replaced last 2 filters myself to see yellow appearance, with black spot on filter quarter size. spent around 600-700 dollars with this shop, do not think fuel is the problem any help appreciated, not much choice with diesel mechianics my area. thanks

Rescue 911 is for gasoline cars in the arctic where the fuel lines are frozen, it will do absolutely no good whatsoever in to your truck. If you can't get any codes, fuel is clean and supply pressure is good, and truck dies like your saying, its most likely the PMD.

Sounds like the same problem I've been having, just stalls for no apparent rhyme or reason. I replaced the PMD with a remote unit with cooler this evening, I hope that resolves the problem. Dealer also blamed fuel and could not get it to stall while they had the truck. Also no codes stored.
Replacement was straightforward, probably about as easy as changing the filter (maybe a little harder but not much). The hardest part was removing the connector from the old PMD. I used a long screwdriver to flip up the latch on the connector then grabbed it with long needle nose pliers. The rest was just deciding where to mount the new unit.
Good luck!Edited by: bobbypos
