Hi Folks,

I was hoping someone could suggest the best place to mount a brake controller (this one is a Tekonsha Prodigy) on my 2003 Duramax 2500 HD 4X4 truck. I obviously plan on mounting the controller somewhere in the general area under the dash on the driver side. But I didn't want to mount the controller one day and then wish that I had put it somewhere else the next day. I love my truck and I only want to drill as little as possible so once I mount the controller thats where I want it to stay. I have the Silverado LT version with the console in the front seat. This only allows limited space to mount the controller. Without the console you could easily mount the controller more towards the center of the dash. I held the controller on the dash directly under the steering column which puts the controller between your legs. This seemed to be a place that will not hinder leg movement. I don't want to mount it somewhere where I am constantly banging it with my knee. But of course I want easy access to the controller. Does anyone have any 'learned the hard way' suggestions.

Thanks!!

I have the same controller in my D/A. I have buckets seats with the center console. Mounted mine on the bottom of the dash next to the console above the throttle. (almost said 'gas-pedal' ...OOPS!) It is not a knee-banger there and easy to reach for manual operations.

Hope this helps.

Follow this thread and you will see where I put mine. I love it there. Out of the way enough so I don't bump it with my knee but readily available to tweak on if need be.

Thanks for the replys. When you guys mounted the controller did you drill into the steel on the bottom of the dash or did you move up some and just drilled through the plastic dash?

Dennis, I noticed on the picture on the link that you sent me that you used the dash so I guess you drilled just through the dash only. Does this hold pretty well when removing the Prodigy from the housing? The screws that came with mine are small and seems like they may eventually work loose in the plastic. Also I noticed the angle of the mount looks steep. Any problems with the angle and the inertia activation of the Prodigy? I know that Tekonsha states that it can be mounted from 0-70 dgrees.

Thanks again!

Gene,

Yes it is just drilled through the bottom panel of the dash. I haven't removed it since it was installed right after I got the truck in January but seems sturdy enough. I haven't kicked it or anything either. I haven't had any problems with it activating at all. I would say it is probably at about a 30-35 degree angle.
