I have a 2002 duramax that I just replaced the water pump on. The corrcect socket size is a 36mm 12pt. If you cannot find a 36mm. You might be able to use a 1 7/16" socket.

The bolt is on there pretty tight. You will probably need to get the tool to hold the flywheel. You will also want to use a 3/4" drive socket and breaker bar and 3 or 4 feet of cheater bar.

I tried a 1/2" drive socket, but the adapter decided to do the twist. I ended up using a 3/4" drive 1 7/16" 12 point socket and the bolt came right off.

Good luck.

Thanks isudiesel i tried the 1-7/16 socket with 3/4 drive and a three foot cheater bar also tried impact but was unable to budge. After a day and a half of trying i gave up and put back together. I think i will let the dealer try. Thank for the advise.
